This is a great new site .. really an asset for MedHelp and its members~  I have a 10 yr history of many atypical moles removed and re-excised to the margin ... then last year one was an early melanoma but now is completely gone after a re-excision about 2" long .. it was the size of a pencil eraser and round in shape/even color and then suddenly grew a tail and got a little bit brownish/red/pink in the center to I went to have it checked on a hunch w/my history.

Now I go now ev. 3mos for checkups and I'm doing fine and nothing new.   It's so important to see your Dr immediately if even on a hunch .... prevention is 99.9% of the cure.

As the sign in my docs office says, "See Spot; See Spot Run" ... not that all moles are cancer, but why take any chance. -- I used to suntan when a teen well before any warnings about skin cancer were known about.

C~ (melanoma very early and 100% cured 6/07)

Glad you caught it early too. I was lucky as well. It's all about catching it as early as possible, which makes it very treatable. Still pretty scary, but treatable.

So glad they created this community! I have/had basal cell carcinoma. I am a blond with fair skin and I imagine I got this from sun tanning when I was younger. Funny back in the day skin cancer was never mentioned or thought much of. I am like cat, everytime they take one off a couple more pop up. I've had removing (cutting) and freezing so far, but no radiation. Luckily, basal cell isn't quite as bad as melanoma or squamous cell. I am thankful for that. I am VERY careful now of what I do in the sun and I faithfully wear sunscreen everyday. We have a pool and now I go out swimming around 4 or 5PM, never early in the afternoon like I used to. I know, it does suck, but we have to be careful from now on.

Anyway, I am glad to be here :)

I am glad they caught it in time, i have squamous cell carcinoma a type of skin cancer it is all over me.  I am a red head with fair skin and freckles, everytime they take one off 5 pop up somewhere else.  I have had radiation and freezing plus cutting nothing seems to work.

I know it can go inside of you, it can go into your bladder, stomach, and lungs.  I am having an endoscopy on wednesday.

Don't lie in those beds they are worse than the sun my doctor told me.
