BREATHLESSNESS ON LAYING DOWN FOR SLEEP

I am 23 yrs old.

Non smoker ,non alcoholic, non diabetic.

Do yoga in morning and cardio and weight training in evening.

My ECG ,PFT have come normal. My KUB ULTRASOUND came normal besides little dilation in lower abdomen.

I eat only home cooked indian food.No fried ,no heavy stuff, no aerated drinks.

As soon as i lay for sleep i experience sweating and breathing difficulty and chest tightness.

If i stay awake this it is near to normal but it is compunded by laying down for sleep.

I am taking a nasal spray for relief in allergies.

Please help!!

Thank you doctor,

I had taken NASIVISION nasal spray for 12 days and now i am taking cipla budenese AQ nasalspray .

As soon as i take the nasal spray there is relief but after 2-3 hours it becomes the same.

I don't understand what is causing such tightness and breathing difficulty after reports have come normal.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Angina or pain due to inadequate blood supply to the heart is usually retrosternal (mid chest or slightly to the left) and is usually brought on by exercise and relieved by rest. But there can be atypical varieties also. The pain you experience does not seem to fall into the category of typical angina. Angina many a times can be missed by a routine ECG. In which case, a treadmill or an exercise ECG may help.

Another possibility is Obstructive Sleep Apnea. When a person sleeps the airways are usually patent allowing normal passage for air entry. The upper airway that is at the region of the tongue and the soft palate is the most compliant (soft) part. So, this is liable to collapse and cause airway obstruction. This is diagnosed by a polysomnogram (sleep test). Discuss the possibilities with your consulting doctor.

In the meantime you could try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks and walk your way to sleeping well.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
