Is your insomnia caused by something? like anxiety? or just not being able to stop thinking?
You could try reading a boring book, taking a warm bath before bed, or drink something warm with no sugar or caffein. Don't eat a few hours before bedtime or go on the computer or watch tv. The trick is to not stimulate your brain before bed, and to get your body into a routine. It could take a few weeks before your body gets used to it, but if you wake up the same time every day and do the same low-key things before bed every night it really helps. Sounds exasperating, but it's worth it for the sleep. If you find yourself lying in bed for more than 20min and you're still awake, get up and do something like a puzzle or easy cleaning then go back to bed after an hour or so and try again. If you don't sleep, don't sleep in and don't nap during the day, just go to bed at your regular time the next night.
