Can't sleep at night and when I do, I can't fall back to sleep

I had always used 1 tablet at night of Xanax 0.25mg.  to get to sleep for several years.  In fear that I might be dependant on it, or can become dependant, my doctor switched me to Lunesta for sleep.  The 2 mg. did not help; it gave me only a few hours of sleep.  I would get up during the night to the bathroom and this would make me stay awake.  So the doctor prescribed the 3 mg. of Lunesta.  This worked a little better, but I have had trouble with a hangover effect that makes me feel so drowsy, light headed and sometimes nauseous during the day.  .  Now I am trying Ambien CR.  I have just tried it for a couple of days.  So far it seems okay; but I don't want to take it every day and get dependant on this as well.  What else is there that I can take to trade off with the Ambien.  I have heard people mention  Tranzadone.  Is this a better alternative?   I feel I was better off taking the Xanax.  I never had any issues with hangover or such.  My insomnia became a real problem with also taking Lexapro for a few weeks and stopping because of bad side effects.   I am better now from the anxiety; but again the issue became what to take for the insomnia.  .  Thanks so much.

This may not be the correct suggestion, but it used to work for me when I was working in shifts and if I didn't get sleep then, it would mean I was a complete zombie the next shift having to go through work and often I would come back home and still not able to sleep, I found out that aches in the body because of lack of sleep were now impeeding sleep, I would sometimes be too tired to sleep, so a friend suggested taking Codeine a few times, and I tried it and it worked brilliant, I would take at least 100 mg of it and it relaxed me so much and helped with any anxiety or restlessnes I was suffering from it would feel wonderful in the calf muscles and joints where it was aching, but I was able to sleep for 10-12 hrs at a stretch and make up for the lost sleep or at least deep sleep for 8-9 hrs if I had slept adequately the prev day, the only trouble is that you can then start taking it for the pleasure it gives in just a little higher dose of 130+mg's which is okay if one is strong willed and takes it SOS only but then you have high chance of getting addicted to it as well ...

Can you tell me if "zoplicone" has another name.  I couldn't find it.  Is it an antidepressant?  Thanks.
