I used to work at a Dr's office and what this Dr is doing to you by not wanting to deal with insurance is WRONG!!!!! Every office has medical assistants, nurses, secretaries ect and they are the ones dealing with the insurance. All your Dr. really needs to do is ok the drug and maybe sign a form. Most times offices will have a signature stamp of the Dr's name. Insurance auths can usually be done in one day and for 30 pills. My ins also requires pre-auth for ambien cr which I take. My Dr's office puts in the request for the meds ( they can put a request for any amount of the drugs they want to) the number of pills and send it in. Sometimes the ins comp. will fire back stating they have "quanity limits" don't let your Dr tell you they will only give you 10 pills because each ins is different and there is no way he can remember all of them. Check with your insurance company about the pre auth process and if there is a quanity limit. If he is right and they will only allow 10 pills ask what you or the Dr needs to do to get the 30 pills you need to sleep. They will tell you what steps to take. Get phone numbers for your Dr's office to call or ask that the ins comp. either direct you to a web site that has all the info about pre auth and forms or fax the form to your Dr and give them the fax number of your Drs; office. If your Dr. still refuses to work with your ins company you need to find a new dr. He is supposed to put your best intrest first before his need to be free of dealing with ins company.
It was a new purscription but was told by someone this information
"I work for a primary doctor if your doctor will write you a script for lunesta in a generic form your insurance will pay for it also they will pay for ambien in generic it's alot less cost he should give you aleast a 30 day to see if it will help.
If he wont do this then I would indeed seek another doctor
Good luck hope this helps"
On the insurance question, was this a new prescription, or have you been on Ambien for some time?
