Scared to Sleep

I don't really know how to explain what happens when I fall asleep, but I'll do my best to try and make everyone understand.
It happens everytime I fall asleep on my back and it happens as soon as I fall asleep. My body is totally paralyzed but but I can hear everything going on around me, and I almost feel like I'm stufficating. I keep my eyes closed the entire time cause I'm scared to open them for some reason.
When it happens, I can make myself almost do a panic sort of breathing, so my boyfriend hears me and wakes me up.
If I fall back asleep right after I wake up then it continues until I make myself sit up and stay awake for at least 2-4 minutes.
The other night it happen to me while I was sleeping on my side and it happen 2 nights in a row, it was the first its ever happend while sleeping on my side, but this time it felt like someone was pushing the back of my head and my back.
I know it all sounds a little crazy but it really does happen to me and it freaks me out alot, cause every night when I go to sleep I'm worried its gonna be one of those nights, cause they do happen alot.
If anyone has any info or thoughts or anything could u please let me know.
Thank You

Hi Lisa:
There are several reasons that can cause this kind of "nightmares". I know what are you talking about. Are you taking some medication? check if you recently have taken medicines or supplements. If this is a positive answer, try to stop for a couple of days or so, always under your Dr advice.
Have you always been on this condition? or it is a recent issue?. Do you have problems with your blood pressure? How old are you?
See, you don't give too much info about your actual status. Try to post more info about you so other members can help with some inputs.
Good luck

Sounds like you might have sleep apnea. I would see you doctor to set up a sleep study. There are a lot of treatments for it. Don't wait around, although rare, sleep apnea can be fatal as you age of put on weight.  Call your doctor an keep us posted!

Hi Lisa, I don't know if this will help, but I was reading about a thing called "sleep paralysis" in a science magazine a while back. Apparently when we fall asleep our brains do several things. One of those things is to remove your ability to move your body, while at the same time putting you in an unconscious state. In some people this system goes haywire and people get up and walk around while asleep, or others become awake but can't move their bodies. This sounds similar to what is happening to you, I hope it helps in some way

Hi Liza

It is actually very easy to explain, and VERY easy to "Cure"!!!

I say "cure" but actually it is a very normal process.

It is NOT a dream, NOT a Nightmare and NOT an illness!!

It's called "Mind awake body asleep"

Now, before I tell you what you can do, I must first explain the normal working of the body and mind:

The mind and body is in a way not linked, that makes it difficult for the body to know if the mind are indeed sleeping, so the body goes in "sleep paralysis" that is very important: If you are dreaming you're running,  sleep paralysis will keep you from running in your bed and awaken from it.

Now, to sort out this problem the body sends a signal to the mind, asking if it's asleep.
This signal is sent by means of a command " to find out more about the command contact me on ***@****"  the strength of this command depends on how sure the body is that the mind are sleeping, this depends on how still you lie, if you lie very still the body is almost convinced that the mind is sleeping, and send out a very tiny signal which can easily be ignored by you and result in sleep paralysis with your mind awake, sleep paralysis feels almost like led on top of your body, and can easily be mistaken for someone pushing you against the bed.
VERY SCAERY AND UNCOMFTABLE.!!!

"CURE":

It is impossible for your body to go in paralysis when there is still some food n the stomach, it will work its way trough the food and when the stomach is empty go in paralysis.

SO... Make sure you eat a little something just before you go to bed, just to keep the body busy until your mind go to sleep.

I am amazed how many people are crying out for assistance because unseen or seen hands are bothering them in the night, paralysed and unable to fight back. The reason you are afraid, is because demons are tormenting you. Fallen angels are not nice, and they can really physically harm you. Cry out to Jesus of the bible, commanding them to stop/leave in his name and they are terrified of him and his authority. Repent ask for forgiveness of your sins in Jesus name, payed for on the cross. Cry out to him , get a bible, and he will protect you. They are so afraid of him. His very name causes them to leave.

I can relate. I already posted this on another thread, so i'll post it here too.

I...I need help or someone to answer me, please! I've been having weird dreams with a black figure. It's not only in my dreams, but I do catch this black figure following me. I'm 20 years old and this thing has been following me sense I was 11 or 12? Can't exactly remember. I've become less scared of it, but my dreams keep getting more intense and just straight up creepy. I like to call it, My Shadow.

Now, hear me out, I have A LOT of OBE. But this morning was my first OBE with my shadow. (an hour ago) I finally fell asleep, and the minute I fell into a dream my back ached and arched from my bed and something force my soul out of my body. Grabbing me from behind making me watch myself sleep closely. Usually I have an amazing, comforting time having an OBE. But I felt so violated and unease. My shadow takes me to the Beauty School I go to (skipped school today) and showed my teacher announcing things I couldn't understand. It was like she was mumbling or talking in a different language? Then out of no where the entire place changes into a room of death. Everyone looks like they're ill, like they're dying and the place gets set in flames then in a matter if seconds I was back in my room and my shadow slams my soul back into my body and I jolted up, wide awake. And this ******* scared me. I'm pretty good with dealing creepy dreams that my shadow wants to show me, but this one felt SOO REAL. I can't stop thinking about it....

I just took a nap after a days work helping out at a yard sale. I was tired and knew that I wanted the energy for the work out that I would be doing later. Anyway, I noticed that I was having trouble falling asleep even though my body was tired. Then in an instant I realized that I was experiencing painful electric shock, couldn't breathe, move, yell for help, anything! I could hear, and see the shocking sensation through my closed eyelids. I could even hear gurgling coming from my throat a I struggled to breathe. I don't know why but I kept overcoming these bouts in waves. I would look at the clock see that I could move and I guessed that everything would be okay again, and I would try to go back to sleep. But it was only to experience another dreadful attack. This happened for about an hour before I slept for two hours without incident. When my alarm went off I was groggy and was so exhausted I just wanted to continue to sleep. Now I take medications for anxiety,  depression, blood pressure, over-active bladder, and sleeping pills, but these attacks have been going on since three years ago, even when I wasn't on all of the medications. I would try to explain myself to people and always get a your crazy look out of them. This site is the most helpful thus far. I would like more input if my case sounds any different. Thank you.

i know xactly what you are talking about. i have been having these occurances for many years now. I've tried explaining this to my friends but all of them cannot relate. When I lie down to fall asleep, I can atually feel it start to happen just as I am closng my eyes (not fully closed) that "sensation" starts to take over. I try my hardest to open my eye-lids back up again before it happens but unsuccessfull. i cant move my body, or cant open my eyes. I try to breath heavelly to make some sort of noise for husband to hear so he can shake me out of it. Is this something that you are experiencing as well? Have you gotten answers for this problem?
