Sleeping Durring The Day???

I can’t sleep at night, regardless of my countless attempts. I have stayed up for three days, and still found myself brutally exhausted during the day and lively at night. I have been going through this for many years now, since the age of seven. This sleeping pattern is disturbing my daily agenda, and need some suggestions. I don’t drink caffeine at all, but I do take a B vitamin in the morning when I absolutely have to stay up during the day.

No help here, just another person with the same problem! Even as a young kid I was up all night locked in my room, reading or drawing and man, it get's boring after 16 years. By age fourteen I spent most of my time trying to run around all day  to tire myself out, keep my family awake as long as I could (scared of the dark, a fun addition, eh?) and then I would collect a bunch of things to do for the night. I would purposelly not do my homework so that I could even do THAT at night.
I've tried mellatonin, benadryl, seroquel, klonopin. The last two worked...during the day. But it just physically hurts to close my eyes at night, my head just starts to throb.

Hi All...just had to chime in...I'm a night owl too!  For me, the nighttime seems so peaceful and calm...nobody up bugging me...I have the computer all to myself...watch whatever I want on tv...I have been this way for as long as I can remember.  I do remember as a child I was always afraid at night, don't know if that has anything to do with it...I was also born in the evening...and there was barely any moon...I wonder if that has anything to do with it...you guys should all check what phase the moon was in when you were born, you can check any date at  http://www.moonphases.info/past_full_moon_dates_calendar.html   It would be interesting to see what phase the moon was in when we night owls or
"primitive cavemen sentries" were born!!  Are you game??

I got the same problem. I have trouble sleeping at night. When it get's about that time I just feel like going outside and hanging out in the woods or something. Yeah friends do usually just joke around, I've been called vampire too before lol. I have trouble sleeping at night and during the day I feel nearly like a zombie, always tired and achy. I'm currently 17 and I noticed the trend in my sleeping patterns at about the age of umm well, I believe it was somewhere between 5 and 9. My parents tried to have me take naps at an early age but that didn't usually work out either. My problem seems to only progress as I get older. I read about your comment on the nocturnal caveguard thing and it would actually make sense. Then again I also think that part of it is just in our mind and part of it is our sleeping cycle.

Stress could very well be the reason, I do deal with it a lot; life is coming right at me with vigor. I mean, you're just a kid then all of a sudden you are handed the burden of living life. Although I didn't have much to be concerned about when I began to have this problem, people were pretty mean to me in school though. Oh well. I'll take your advice and seek a therapist.

Hi, relax! don't feel low about these things. It is a matter of belief on has, friends might joke in a causual sense otherwise. I would sincerely advise you to consult a sleep specialist and a neurophysician for evaluation and to go with hear say. Stress can be a risk factor in many ways so be cool and go ahead with your daily routine. Bye.

I'm actually not on any medication. My friends joke about this all the time, telling me I have "vampirism". Is there even a such thing?

Hi, see a sleep specialist for a second opinion, it seems abnormal that you are not able to sleep at night. Are you on any medications for a while. Have a sleep study repeat. Bye.

Me too! I usually draw at night, as well as write stories about dreams I've had the previous day. I think that is because at night you have more freedom for thinking and that allows your mind to wander into strange things. Here's an example, I had a vision of four cabinets, filled with stereo equipment and a record player, hung above a lake on a tree next to my house, and in my garage there was a door going to the outside, but it actually went into the wall, and I was trapped there. I still have yet to find out what that was about. I'm almost afraid to know...

That would freak me out...  3:50 am right now. I better try to sleep at least...

One problem is I find myself the most creative at night, so that's when I am doing much of my writing and drawing... So many ideas... but not enough time to write them all down.

Doesn’t get much better than irony now does it?

I never had a fear of sleeping, but I did have some peculiarly insane terror of someone breaking through my window, which was above my headboard, assuming that they would stab me in the chest with some type of serrated kitchen knife. I would either lie on my stomach or cross my arms over my chest. I also noticed it getting worse around the age of 12 too. That’s the age when I started rebelling against the norm, and people at school were telling me I look creepy. Hey, that’s how people are, anything that’s amongst the opposition is considered immoral nowadays.

Hope your headache improves; I know I’ve had one for the past few days. I’ve been feeling a little sick on the side as well.

I was born a few days late. Induced labor... That happened with my sister too, I mean induced labor.  Her birth was a little bit early because the doctors mistook mom's weight gain for the baby and thought the baby needed to be born.

My grandma claims I've never slept properly from practically the day I was born. She thought I never slept, cried all the time and so on...  I doubt that I never slept, but it may be likely I was up all night... I remember having to be forced to go to bed. I'd either not fall sleep, or wake up terrified of something. I think I had occasional bouts of SP intermixed.  I may have had a fear of sleeping as a kid...  I'm sure they mya have contributed to my problem.  I just know I almost never felt tired around 8-10pm when it would be bed time, and it only got worse after age 10-12 I think starting puberty brought the nocturnal sleep schedule even more, and then steadily getting worse into my 20's.

BTW my previous post was posted around 2:20 am. How's that for irony... A late night post in a sleep disorder forum...  It's 8am now and I woke up with a sickly feeling headache.

That actually is a pretty intellectual theory. Perhaps we once were human sacrificial cavemen security guards lol.

I do know I was born around midnight, so I question if that may have had something to do with it. I also was born approximately a week late, who knows what effect that has on me. That’s my reason for fearing suffocation, because I apparently almost suffocated at birth. Nice, I know.

I didn't know either, but I figured it may be likely... I kind of made up that term in a way.  I was having a discussion and joke with my grandma a while ago and we came to hypothesize from an evolutionary standpoint, it would benefit a community of primitive cavemen to have a few night sentries to spot lurking predators and either fend them off or alert and wake up the rest of the community.

She asked why it seems like night people always marry morning people, and I concluded, once again there may be an advantage to having one parent up at night and one at day to take care of baby.

Granted I'm making this stuff up without scientific basis, but I have a hunch I wouldn't be too far off base.

Possibly. I never knew people could be nocturnal. Well, at least I know someone else has the same problem, and I'm not some sort of "missing link", or from a genome project.

I'm no much help, but I can say, I've also suffered the same problem. I can fall asleep early a few days, but then after a couple days, then it's back to "normal" that is hyper around 11pm- 4:30 am/nearly sunrise (in the summer) and then tired much of the day. I guess we are both nocturnal?
