Car Accident Insomnia

I was in a rather severe car accident Friday afternoon, and ever since then I've noticed that it takes me about two hours to fall asleep.  No matter how tired I am during the day or when I go to sleep, it takes me wayy too long to fall asleep.  I follow my usual bedtime routine (reading a book until I can't keep my eyes open anymore), yet I still find myself with this problem.  I also have rather bad headaches almost all day, and the general back and neck pain associated with whiplash.  I'm assuming that the two events are linked, but should I seek further medical help?

Dear All,
Me and my girlfriend had a severe accident, where we both suffered of whiplash and my girlfriend hit her head in the dashboard. This happened 2 years ago. Due to the shock her menopause has begun and since than she cannot har children. Additionally, she is unable to sleep properly because she wakes up suddenly every 2 hours. We been to various doctors but the prescription is the same... various chemical pills... that have strong side affects.

Could anyone recommend a natural treatment to help her to sleep 8 hours every night?

God Bless you all and thank you!
Alex

I was in a car accident eleven days ago. The airbags were faulty and my face hit the steering wheel. I hit a cement wall head on at fifty miles an hour with no seatbelt. Among the missing teeth shattered nose and three other fractured including my skull I've had a constant headache. the whites of my eyes are filled with blood. I feel slower and dizzy and can't fall asleep for hours and can't stay asleep for more than a couple of hours. My appetite has also been greatly affected. Should I be concerning myself with the possibility of brain damage?

I would definitely go to the doctor if I were you. It could be related to the shock from the impact of the accident. Take good care. God bless.

Hey, you are not alone.  I was in a car accident 5 months ago and I am still having sleep issues.  I was finally sent to a neurologist and was prescribed Nortriptyline.  It is actually a anti-depressant that doctors also prescribe for pain, migraines, and sleep issues.  You can look it up online.  I was shocked that my whiplash from months ago was the culprit for my issues, as I also suffer from headaches, migraines, pain, balance problems, etc.  You should make an apt. with your doctor and let them know your symptoms.  No need to suffer so much without help.  I must say that the med. has helped definately with my headaches/migraines, and has also improved sleep, although I still don't get enough, and wake up often.
Hope this info. helps you, Terrie

Hi,
you are probably going through the same memories of accident  again and again, these repeatitive thinking of the incidence is causing disturbance in your sleep cycle and this is temporary as you get involved in your day to day activities and spend more time with your family members, friends and involve yourself more into recreational activities. You can also have Anxiolytics at bed time if sleep is too disturbed or consult you Physician for his opinion.

Something that may work also is a nice warm cup of sleep time tea. Natural cures are always the best over any prescription if there is one available. Try some things that will make you drowsier. I agree with Blessed that you are not mentally out of the accident. You may not realize it, but your brain is calculating all the scenarios of the accident. It's normal human behavior when something traumatic happens to us. Find ways to relax, such as a warm cup of sleep time tea, no caffiene after say 6pm, take a relaxing bubble bath, put on a classical music or nature cd, things of that nature. I hope all this helps and take car getting through what has happened due to the accident.

Hi,
You seem have gone through a 'shock' .Cool it off...You need a break maybe...Consult a psychiatrist and be on anti-anxiety drug for a couple of days.It would help.If you like listening to music ,hear some good music, ofcourse some 'soft music'.Hangout with friends, call them for dinner..and RELAX..thats what you need. You are not mentally out of the accident, probably your subconscious mind is thinking of the worst outcomes if the accident would have taken place.
Enjoy, and thank the lord almighty for having saved you.
Good luck.
