Insomnia and nightmares

I've been having nightmares for days and waking up crying and sweating. I can't sleep at night, so I end up going to bed around 3am and waking up around noon. I'm on vacations now so it doesn't actually affect my daily schedule, but I feel I don't seize the day waking up so late. Any natural alternatives to sleeping pills? I'm not very fond of sleeping drugs...

Within our subconscious mind we retain a primitive mechanism to both remember stress, and control our ability to sleep. When we are in balance we send the appropriate instruction to our subconscious, and the sleep mechanism simply takes over. However when this balance is disturbed the result is sleeplessness.

Overcoming sleeplessness is dealt with by teaching and practising the following skills:

The ability to consciously relax and to release stress any time, anywhere,
The ability to focus your mind
The ability to neutralise and reprogram hurt memories
The ability to develop mind/body exercises to overcome depression
The ability to develop new responses to stressful events

Do you have "nightmares" when you sleep from 3AM to Noon?

Sleeping pills and aids will not help with nightmares in my experience.

Nightmares may just be a passing thing, but if they continue I'd recommend considering the methodologies advocated in the "Lucid Dreaming" approach to managing dreams, including nightmares.  I have has some success and rarely have a nightmare, but in recent years I have regular trouble mares.. that's what I call them, not threatening dreams, just troubling dreams.  This my be a result of aging.

Berlin,
You could try taking Melatonin. It is a natural sleep aid you can find in the vitamin section at most stores.
