Yesterday was day 4.....and do to physical pain and some problems at home I slipped.  I had 2 puffs last night, and 3 puffs today.  The cig tasted like ****, so I guess that is a good thing, but I feel absolutely horrible about myself.  I found out last week I have copd and I know better!

I just need support and a place to vent.

Slips sometimes happen in the beginning. When you slip you just get right back up and keep going. You want to do it, you know you can do it and you WILL do it!!!! Good luck on your journey!!!!!!!! Its a long and bumpy road, the view at the end is SO worth it!!!! :)

Im back on track......I haven't had one since 2:30 yesterday, and haven't even craved one.  The last one was so nasty (tasted like clorox) that who can crave that! lol

Thanks to both of you, Kathy & Jade.  You both helped me thru my slip and you helped me get myself back to my goal.

The others (beatingthis & Jade59) have given some sound advice.
I just want to touch a little bit more about one thing in particular....stress.

I think that most smokers have this in common and almost all of us suffer(ed) from the misconception that smoking will magically make it disappear. In fact, while you berate yourself about your slip you are setting yourself up for another one. Guilt gives way to anger and then, before you know it, you punish yourself for your slip (which you see as a failure) by smoking because you feel like you have already lost the battle.........I think we all played that game, but we eventually were able to do it, just like you will too : )

I smoked for nearly 40 years and after using Advair for the past 5 years, I finally admitted that it was smoking that caused my breathliness and not asthma as I fooled myself into believing. It was difficult but what helped so very much was the support of this board as well as friends & family. Whyquit.com was a great source for knowledge and perserverance. Read the articles and whenever you need support, we are here for you : )

I have a ticker that I downloaded, but since I slipped I had to start it over!!!  I do agree it helps ALOT, everytime before this slip Id see how much time I'd put into it and it would get me thru the cravings.

I also restarted the medhelp addiction tracker too.........but now I have NO days clean :(  Its depressing.

I really hope it helps with the IBS, Im praying it helps in the end with my anxiety disorder.....I know smoking makes you more anxious but it for some reason makes you feel relaxed when you smoke.  Go figure.

Thanks for all the support

Good for you!  I don't know about you, but I had to wash my bedding too, to get rid of every single bit of smoke smell.  Even my closet smelled of smoke from wearing something once and rehanging it.

I just peaked at your profile and something else wonderful that happened when I quit smoking is my gastrointestinal problems went away completely!!  Now I don't have IBS; I managed to give myself 2 ulcers from too much NSAID use, but smoking really plays havoc with ones stomach whether one has a medical issue or not.  I bet with a little time, your gastro problems will improve also.  Something to look forward to, don't you think? :)

Another suggestion.  Download one of the quit meters at whyquit.  Not only will it show your clean days, but how many cigs you haven't smoked, how much money you've saved as well as how much time you've added to your life.  Like you, I also have an addiction tracker here, but I find being able to see how many cigs I have NOT smoked has been another helpful mind game.

I was a smoker for 35yrs and let me tell you, this is very hard, but worth the pain and struggle in so many ways.

I took a shower and got the "smoke" smell off of me.  Ive only been off cigs for 4 days but just smoking today .. OMG how awful I smelled.

I've restarted on the no smoking.........luckily it was a slipp and not a relapse :)

One more thing.

Another important reason to never take a puff is after enough "puffs" they won't taste so bad and then you'll be a gonner!

Just speaking from experience lol...

Hi,  Terry is right.  Don't be so hard on yourself.  Today is a new day.  When I quit, I made myself lots of sticky notes to put around the house with the simple words of "Never Take Another Puff."

Also, try making a list of your reasons why you're quitting smoking so they are at hand when you're feeling weak.  Copy these notes and put them in your underwear drawer, make-up drawer, bathroom mirror and fridge and car.   Everywhere you can't miss them.  It's just a little mind game :)

Mom, like you, I deal the chronic pain of Fibro and TMJ which can be so very trying, but let me tell you what happened when I quit smoking.  The pain eased by 50% for me!  It feels like a miracle!  I KNOW you will feel better as time goes by.

Another way I combat the cravings is to walk alot.  Walking can help keep the Fibro pain under control as well as help with the cravings.  It naturally helps keep the pounds off when one stops smoking too :)

Don't feel so bad about your slip.  It happens to the best of us :)  Keep posting and do try and read whyquit.com.  It's very educational and a good place to go when the cravings hit.

We are here for you.  Please hang in there.  Today is a new day!!!!!

Don't beat yourself up. Pick yourself up wipe off your butt and start again.
12 weeks for me. I still have some pretty tuff cravings but if I tke 1 puff I know I will be right back smoking full time.

Congrads for trying. Keep trying!
