Hi!
In human body, cotinine (a metabolite of nicotine) has half-life of approximately 20 hours. This means it is detectable in an appreciable amount for up to a week after last tobacco use. The cotinine level in blood would be directly proportional to the amount of exposure to tobacco, both active and passive. It takes about two weeks for blood cotinine level in a smoker to drop to the blood cotinine level of a non-smoker’s level. If a urine test is carried out, it will remain positive for cotinine for several weeks. Hope this helps. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
