I'm 20 also..and i've also been smoking 5+ years..i know how you feel...the slightest thing sends me off when i try to quit..im going to try an exercise regimen, as suggested by my doctor...he also gave me a support group to go to...but i have a feeling i'll be the youngest person there..and i honestly think i can do this alone! I'm like you, NOT big into taking meds...im even weirded out by Nicorette, and the patch..why put nicotine in when your trying to get off of it..
idk..maybe we can be online smoking support buddies or something..i'll let you know how the excercise thing helps...i start next week..

According to the authorities (the tobacco experts?) it will take 72 hours for nicotine to leave your system or, if you prefer, for the physical withdrawal.
Looking back on it, it wasn't so bad and I smoked for so long and really enjoyed it......
I just wish I would have listened to all of the warnings.
Walking, going up stairs, tolerence to any physical activity gets so hard when you smoke for so long. Every doctor visit is a nail biting experience. Quit while you are young so you don't have to worry about the long term effects of smoking.
3 days isn't so bad. You can do it!

Does anyone know of anything that flushes system of nicotine besides juice to make the process faster? just a thought
Thanx so much everyone. I have severe OCD and I could never take the medicines to help me, because I just don't take medicine. But I will give it my best try and thanx again
I was a hardcore smoker and I never believed that I would or could quit. I took Chantix and it was more like a dare as they claim a 44% quit rate.
I am a believer now, 5 1/2 months quit after 38 years of smoking and I tell everyone that if I can do it, then anyone can.
Congrats on recognizing that you are unhappy with smoking and at such a young age! You have to start mentally preparing for it and don't be to tough on yourself if it takes you a few times : ) Read the articles at whyquit.com as suggested by FMXSMKR. It really does help you prepare both physically and emotionally. It will be the best thing you will ever do for yourself.
If you need support, and you will, we are here for you.
Good luck!

Well let me say first off that WANTING to quit is the first step. Waaayyy back when I was 20 I still loved to smoke and the last thing I thought about was quitting. If you've tried the patch, lozenge or gum without results, maybe you might benefit from a hospital in-treatment program. When I was a teenager, a neighbor of mine did it that way, but I don't know if that sort of program is still offered today. Oh, and there's Chantix too. Several people on here have used it with success. Have you tried every aid out there?
You're not alone my friend. I quit last July and it's been sooo hard!! I have relapsed for the third time and today I am quitting again.
Listen honey, you CAN do this because no one but YOU can do it. What about speaking with your doctor and getting an RX for something to calm you down on a temporary basis?
Have you visited "whyquit.com?" That's been a big help for some of us here. Or just come on here and post your heart out. Sometimes getting your thoughts and feelings out makes it a little easier to get through that next minute.
There is no magic answer here blink. You have to just DO IT. The anger is normal, the coughing is normal, the tight chest is normal and all this will pass and you will feel SO MUCH BETTER you won't believe it. That's something to look forward to, right? I've only relapsed for about 10 days, but physically feeling better is what I am looking forward to as of today.
It will be much easier to do it now than later when you're older because the habit will be even more ingrained than ever.
Good luck hon......let's do this together okay?
