The only thing that I can point to is that whatever goes thru your system also goes thru babies. Smoking is not good for you nor the child. You must remember that cigarettes have been altered over the years to make them addictive. When you look up what is in them, there is no question as to how harmful it is. Give it up, your doing great. Who wants to go around smelling like a stale ashtray anyways right?
I couldnt even smoke during pregnancy cause the smell made me sick, among other things. BUT, yes , even a little can ahrm the baby and like others said, second hand smoke is very bad as well. Good Luck and keep up the quitting, and ask hubby to smoke outdoors only. xo
I commend you for your efforts to quit! Good work, mama!
The things ducky said about smoking and children/pregnancy are all true, and there really is no way around it that smoking isn't good for babies/children. You are doing a great thing - both for now and for your child's long-term health if you're able to keep making progress. Keep going as much as you can - maybe there are even some others around you who are trying to quit and you can try to help one another stay encouraged. Hang in there!
Honestly it's not good to be around cigarette smoke. Second hand smoke does its damages too and there is no guarantee that it wouldn't hurt the baby. It's quite probable that being around it, because it does definitely hurt you, will also hurt the baby.
Really what smoking does is making the baby at risk for premature birth, low birth weight, potential weight problems as a child/adult, risk of ADHD and ADD, among other things. A baby can also theoretically be born addicted to nicotine.
Now it's very good that you've almost completely stopped. It's a freaking hard thing to do. But each drag does your body some harm, and therefore baby too. Perhaps now is when you have a choice, and your husband probably should make it too. A child growing up in a smoke filled house is more likely to suffer health problems than a child growing up without smoke. What better way to welcome a new life than to kick a bad habit and addiction?
