I was turned down 3 times. It ws over 3 years before I received the first SSI checks Then I started to get some of my Back Pay. But they took out almost 21K of it due to a legal problem I had when I was staying with my parents after my Divorce I was put in jail by my parents for arguing with my Dad and Violating a protection order after I was homeless and on the streets of Atlanta and Unable to work due to my Disability I understand that they don't put as many disabled people in Jail now, as they did back in 2005. I lost all the time I was locked up in jail from my Back Pay. So now I am having a rough time getting by with SSDI only. I pay all my bills Truck Payment I had to trade my Car in too many repairs every other month. So Now I am paying 258.00 a month for 4 years. I had a rough time after my Surgery with almost no family support until I was back in Florida and received help with the VA here. I will say this "Don't count on anyone for help after your Surgery!" unless you have a good support system in place. I did not have my ex wife's support she did not even come to the hospital after the duty nurse called her 5 times. So MY Parents picked me up at the Hospital and I had top get out of Bed the next day and take care of my Father in Law that had altimeters. So how was your life At least I am free now. NO MORE PROBATION IN Ga it was 5 years non reporting. I now have a Felony record because the State of GA raised the Misdemeanor charge to a felony of Aggravated Staking. Which I did not even do? I did return to my parents house to take a shower and eat something when my Dad was gone. I was able to see my Mom.I lost my Dad this past September We were on good terms and he did try and get the charge dropped but they would not. So I am going8 to look into having it removed I have never been in trouble before that. I was a respected Business Owner in Florida b4 I came up there!
Hi, I just found out a little more about SSI. SSI is also for people that qualify for disability or low income and are capable of doing some work. The SSI is less money than you would receive from Social Security Disability but it will supplement your income. The max. benefit on SSI is $675 mo. and SSDI max. beneft is around $2200 per mo. depending on your earnings.
I was just accepted for SSDI but I also applied for SSI when I began. There is a 5 month waiting period to receive your SSDI, I only waited 4 mos. to be approved so I am collecting SSI until I receive my first SSDI payment. I am being paid back pay based off my SSI and I am covered by medicaid and I am eligible for Food Stamps. Once my SSDI kicks in I will lose SSI; my meicare and I will be making over the limit to receive Food Stamps. On SSDI you must draw for 2 yrs. before becoming eligible for Medicaid.
Hope this helps. Be sure and apply for both SSDI and SSI when you apply.
hi, SSDI IS IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH WORK CREDITS (YOU MAKE SO MANY CREDIT EACH YEAR DEPENDING ON YOUR INCOME) TO QUALIFY FOR DISABILITY. SSI IS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH WORK CREDITS ACCUMULATED. SSI IS USUALLY LESS PAYMENT THAN SSDI. YOU CAN SO TO 'WWW.SSA.GOV' AND ACCESS A WORLD OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE QUALIFICATION FOR DISLABILITY.I
