Father had stroke

My father had a major stroke almost 3 years ago. He never fully recovered and he is paralyzed on his left side. Ever since the stroke he acts sort of like a kid and I know that is normal but some of the things he says are hard to deal with. Sometimes he says he wants to move to Florida or go on vacation without us when he knows he isn't capable of doing so. My mom, brother and I help him with everything possible but it's as if he doesn't like us sometimes. Today he said he had an accident twice so we changed him twice but both times he actually never did have an accident. He said he had an accident for a third time and we checked and there was nothing. He kept insisting and said that he wants to move out and go to a family friend's house because she will treat him better. This is extremely hard on all of us but most of all my mom. Does anybody else have experience with this? I don't know how to deal with this and I would really appreciate anybody who has been through this to comment. Thanks.

You can't take it personally. Just let the criticism roll over your heads.  He is confused and depressed with his situation.  Give him praise for what he is able to do.

Yes I suffered and brainstem stroke. I had similar issues where I feel like I wet myself and I actually didn't. Today i felt like I did three times. The nurses checked me and I didn't.   One thing that helps is when everyone around me does everything a little slower. Give him hope one day he will be able to go to Florida and probaly alone. He's suffering depression and needs some hope. It's a horrible feeling to have inside from a stroke. A lot of people don't understand and think we are who we were once but were not. It changes so many things about us. My advice be patient be strong and keep him strong mind over matter will make him get better quicker!
