40 years old and desperately wanting a baby, WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
ita17 was kind enough to point me in the direction of this TTC Over 40 Group of lovely ladies!
I had posted my below story in the Pregnancy 35+ but I think it deserves to be here also!!
I was REALLY hoping to hear from some of you fine ladies that might have got pregnant at 40 or over and what you experienced and your journey before successfully becoming pregnant.
Just a quick briefing on my story so far.  I just got married for the first time 4 months ago to the man that I waited my whole life to find.  It's my and my husband's first marriage and neither of us have children.  Two weeks ago we had our first visit to a fertility doctor because although we had not been trying for very long at all, I also knew that I did not have any time to waste due to my age.  I am very much aware of the risks to the baby and also the odds of actually  getting pregnant at my age.  About a month ago I just had one blood test by my regular family doctor to test my progesterone level and it came back low.....which did not surprise me because I know there are certain months that I do not ovulate......however, I should mention that I have never missed a period and my periods are fairly regular although they started to come earlier abou 3 years ago.  So now it comes anywhere between the 25th-28th day.  But I never spot during the month.  I've only ever taken 2 OPK's and I never got a positive ovulation indicator...that makes me so sad :(
I truly feel I have entered in to peri-menopause.  I have horrible sleepless restless nights.  Certain days of the month I will wake up feeling as though I just broke a fever because I'm sweaty and damp.  It's certainly not a hotflash though.
There are also certain days of the month where I am soooo hot during the night no matter how low I put the temperature or open the window at night.  Anyway, there are several signs that my progesterone and other hormone levels are all out of wack!
The fertility doctor took a whole bunch of blood tests from myself and my husband and did an ultrasound on myself and has had me start trackin my basal temperature each morning.
We go back to see him in 2 weeks to find out the results of all these tests.
I would love and appreciate so much any feedback anybody could give me on success stories of becoming pregnant at 40 or over.  And if any of you experienced the same sort of things I am experiencing.
I'm afraid that I'm too far gone with all my hormone fluctuations to become pregnant.
I started to track my basal temperature the day after our first appointment and that was day 19 of my cycle and I was so happy to see that my temperature was high giving indication that I had ovulated but the high temperature only lasted for about 4 days and then started to slowly decline until I got my period.  But now that I am on day 3 of my period, it still has not really gone down that much.  Still higher then it should be after getting you period.
What about clomid success at 40?
HELP?!?

Hi hun welcome aboard,My name is bev i am 41 and waited my whole life for my wonderful fiance who i met 14 mnths ago and proposed after 2mnths.He has a daughter who is 13 but we both dearly want a child together.I had an eptopic and it resulted in losing my right tube now nearly 5 yrs ago.I have regular periods and ovulate every month,we have had all the tests and have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility which is very very frustrating but also it means that because theres nothing seriously wrong its still not made things any better either. The doctor has advised us to go for IUI and are now waiting for the appointments to begin soon. The hospital where we attend in scotland does not perform IVF after age 42 as they have no success rates. So if we want to go for IVF we need to do it soon.I am frustrated to say the least but i will never give up hope and one thing i have learned by being on here is the support and understanding you will receive from all the wonderful women who have or have had problems with fertility.I just want to wish you luck and send my best wishes and never give up hope because anything is possible xxx

I don't know if my story will give you hope but like you I married last year at 39 to my wonderful husband (first marriage for both).  We had 3 iui's, one preg but miscarried at 9 weeks.

I turned 40 in late December and I just finished first IVF cycle and am now almost
4 weeks pregnant.  I just found out I am pregnant and haven't had my first u/s yet so I'll keep you posted.  I would try IVFif you can, it works.

Good luck to you and don't give up hope, you can still do it!!

Hi there.  I just noticed your post - it caught my eye because I too am 40 and had been trying to conceive for quite some time, and am now pregnant.  I thought I would write you.  First, my heart goes out to you, I read your story and I can relate in so many ways.  Its good that you posted on this board, as I found/find it very helpful.  My DH and I had been trying for 2 years, since we got married, to have a baby.  This is my second marriage, my DH’s first, and neither of us has any children.  He is 45, I am 40, so when we started the fertility treatments, we did so because we knew that we were older and thought it was the best decision and didn’t want to waste any time.  My cycles were 34 days, very long.  But I had been charting my temps for many months and taking OTC ovulation tests as well, prior to going to the fertility clinic.  I would ovulate on the 17th day each month, and each month it just never worked for us.  So finally we made the decision.  The clinic put me on Clomid for several months first.  That proved to work as far as stimulating my follicles, but did not result in my getting pregnant.  From there, we went with Clomid along with injectible meds, followed by an IUI.  I did that once and it didn’t work.  The second IUI, they switched up my meds to a stronger injectible (Bravelle), which also was successful in stimulating follicles, but I didn’t end up pregnant.  The third IUI was the charm.  This time they put me on straight injectible meds (Gonal-F) and no more Clomid.  Then I had 4 follies that were mature enough.  DH’s sperm count was also very good each time, but this time was very good.  We found out in November that we were going to have a baby.  I am in my 15th week of pregnancy now and it’s wonderful.  I don’t take it for granted for a second.  And we realize that although it took us some time to get here, it is not nearly as long a time as it takes for some.  And it is a difficult road, albeit for a few months of not being successful or several years.  Everyone has their own path to follow.  I just want to say to not give up hope.  Although we went through these procedures, just going through what we did and being so disappointed the first few times, had us so beaten down emotionally and physically.  You want something so badly and can’t understand why it doesn’t happen.  We were going to give it a break in December if the last time didn’t work, so we could enjoy the holidays and try and get back to ‘normal’.  And then ‘IT’ happened for us.  So I truly feel as though it is a miracle, yes.  And if you have faith, it will see you through.  Please don’t give up hope.  These fertility clinics and medical science can take you much further than times in the past, but they too can only get you so far.  Try and relax, focus and stay positive.  The ladies on here are so wonderful, and each has their own amazing stories.  You are not alone.  I thought it would never happen for me, and it did.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  And I hope to read your success story on here very soon!  Good luck & tons of baby dust to you!

Hi there,

Try not to stress. I get hot nights sometimes too. It could be a virus or a panic attack or lots of things.
I'm 42 and trying for number 2. I had two pregnancies last year at 41 but both ended in miscarriage, so conceiving hasn't been a problem so far. I temp and have found that works well. I have never really taken my temp much after ovulation but last month i did and it only stayed high for 5 days then dipped for 2 then up again until my period. Not sure what that means but probably not good. I have a progesterone test next week.

Take care.

We have  a similar cycle ;o)  Mine changed after my last MC in Feb.  I had lap. surgery in Nov. '08 for a cyst & they removed one ovary & tube, never really put it together that, that's why my cycles got a couple of days closer & O, 2 days sooner ;)

I am 43 and have been TTC for about 6 months and charting for 3 months.  The charting is so extremely important!!!  I never knew before I started charting that I o'd at CD 9 - CD10.  My cycles are about 25 - 26 days, but I found from temping that my luteal phase is 16 days.  I guess as we get older and there are less eggs trying to mature each month, ovulation comes earlier.... hence the shorter cycles.  If I hadn't started charting though, I would not have realized that I o'd so early.  I figured a 14 day luteal phase, which would mean ovulation on about CD 12!!  I would constantly be missing the mark!  Now we know we have to start the BD on about CD 8 and continue every day until ovulation has been confirmed by the temp shift!

Good luck to you!

Welcome, I'm 40 and have an 8 yr old DD from a previous marriage. I'm now trying for number 2 (1st for my new DH). We are trying naturally until March and them my doc wants us both to have testing done.
One thing I can tell you, just from being on this site is that nothing is impossible! Don't give up hope. It's amazing what can be done. Hopefully we will be lucky also and will soon have our BFPs! Good luck to you and I hope the tests will come back with good news.

Hey,welcome aboard,I think I can use that expression since I was feeling the same way some time ago..got married at 39,I was already 39,5+ when we found the time to have some tests both of us and visit a fertility doctor,since-likeyou-I could feel the clock ticking sooo loud!Nothing wrong was diadnosed from tests, but after trying IUI we soon decided to go to IVF to have better results as soon as possible.I got pregnant right away, but when I was 5months pregnant I decided to do the amnio(just to be sure). The amnio was performed badly,it ruptured my amniotic sac and I lost my baby.Devastated,we decided to try again soon, and again because of the age factor, ivf was the way for us.I got pg again! This time,I was really vulnerable and afraid but the pregnancy went well and 39 weeks later I had the love of my life,my dd,at the age of 41,5.I felt soo lucky and happy ,and I thought it 's over for me but 1,5 year later, the wish for another baby was intense enough to make me try another ivf.I got pregnant but it resulted in a blighted ovum at 8 weeks. Now,cruising at 43,I know things are not easy,but..I think we are going to try one more time.I sooo wish I can be able to share some good news with you in the near future. But there are a lot of success stories out there, women even older than me go on to have healthy pgs.I wish I was 40 again,it sounds young!Well...go for it,don't waste any time but try to be calm.Best of luck, keep posting!
