Itchyness

I am 16, and I don't like talkin to my mom about stuff! So.. The past few months there has been this weird discharge stuff and kind of a weird smell and I'm really itchy, the itchyness gets worse when I shave it I don't shave!!! It's so confusing, it is usually the night after I shave when it starts. I am sexually active but always use a condom with the only partner I have had and I am the only one he has had... Is it something I should worry about or am I okay? Could something serious be wrong or something I could take care of on my own without spilling my guts to my mom, who thinks I am a virgin? Please help!

It sounds like you have some sort of infection, so you need to see a doctor asap. It IS possible to get a bacterial infection or a yeast infection without having sex or being sexually active. So although I believe you should be honest, you can easily tell your mother that you think you have a yeast infection, but aren't sure so you want to see a doctor. If you develop a fever, back pain, nausea, or severe cramping you should go to the ER.

You need make an appointment with your doctor. If you're over 14 in the States, this can typically be done without a parent or guardian present, which may be easier on you. You need to be open and honest to your doctor about your sexual history and symptoms. (Don't be ashamed because they've usually seen it all.) At a later date, if you haven't had one already you need to get a pap smear and the HPV vaccine. You should start getting these as soon as (or even before) you become sexually active. Pap smears should then be done at least every other year.  (Or if you have cervical cancer in your family history every year.)

DO NOT have sex/use a vibrator, take baths, or use tampons until it clears up. These can make the infection worse, spread it, and/or in the case of tampons cause toxic shock syndrome so it's very important to be patient and wait until it's clear.
