Lupron for 12 year old boy?

My son was a 26 week preemie and is now a healthy 12 1/2 year old.  He is almost 5 feet tall and weighs 79 lbs.  He has hypothyroidism and his TSH is often high so we have to adjust his meds.  He has been diagnosed as slow growth AND precocious puberty (bone plates at age 14).  No other problems, MRI showed nothing there.  Endo recommending Lupron but can't find much info about giving that to a 12 year old boy.  And thoughts positive or negative?

My son is 10 years old with a 12 year bone age.  He is 5'1" and 110lbs.  they diagnosed him with precocious puberty based on hand x-ray, growth spurt, body changes, etc.  They are recommending arimidex and lupron.    I am worried about side effects.

What did you decide to do?  We are in a similar situation.  My son was a 24 wk premie and now has precocious puberty and advanced bone age.  Any other details you have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, that's so hard.  My friends sons (twins) were born at 23 weeks.  By 14, one twin is full height at about 5 foot 4 inches and pretty much done with puberty while the other is on a more traditional tract.  They never really looked into precocious puberty.  How was your son diagnosed? It's my understanding from reading that Lupron is typically used in younger children than 12 and for those who did start Lupron at the younger ages, it is stopped around this age.  Unfortunately, there are side effects that are undesirable with the use of pediatric Lupron. I will also tell you that both of my sons by 12 were full on puberty including facial hair!

But perhaps your son is younger than the original poster. Tell us more and we'll try to help!!
