taking antibiotics while on birth control

Hi
im currently taking cephalexin 2 times a day and ive been on it for a couple weeks. i also take BeYaz birth control which i have been on over a month.
i did have unprotected sex last night and he did come in me. but i did not find out until just recently that my antibiotics could affect the effectiveness of the pill. my dr didnt even tell me.
do i probably need to get something like the morning after pill? i have been on birth control continually for over a year now.
and i have had unprotected sex before without taking birth control- not that that situation justifies this one.
any advice?
thanks

Call your doctor about the morning after pill and ask them. I'm not totally sure on the answer and you only have a 72 hour time window to take this pill or it won't do a thing and it is better to take it asap if you are going to take it. With any birth control pill, they will always advise you to use condoms or abstain from sex if you are on anti-biotics. If you are still on anti-biotics, use a condom or don't have sex because if you are ovulating now, you can easily get pregnant.

I'm not sure that the morning after pill would do much for you, considering that anti-biotics counter act the extra hormones from the pill. With all birth control pills, any time you take anti-biotics you should be using a condom or abstaining from sex in order to prevent pregnancy. You can call your doctor in the morning and ask if the morning after pill would help(I'm not sure) and see what they say. Hope it goes well.
