Extremely High TSH leve EXTREMELY

I recently had a blood test done because I was showing symptoms of hypothyroidism.  The doctor got my results back and he said in all his years he has never seen a TSH level so high, mine was 292 which is extemely out of the norm.  Does having such a high TSH level pose any other dangers other than hypothyroidism?
My thyroxine level was .26 which is way low from where it was supposed to be also.  Thanks.

have been on thyroxine and liothyronine for over 3 years. had radio active idodine Dec 2003. before Christmas was sleeping 19 hours out of 29, sometimes had to lie down before collapsing. prior to this eyes bulging out of head but eventually came down a bit.  longest awake in 24 hours roughy 5 hours

stopped all medication 8th Dec 06 TSH was 81 9th Jan 07.  yesterday was awake for 15 hours, feel eyes slighly down although goes up sighly when tired or just woken up.  sleeping about 11 - 12 hours a day. slight muscles aches, headaches - side of left eye but not every day have ony taken pain killers about 5 times since coming off the medication.  hands sometimes feel a bit light i.e. typing. feel mentally a bit better.
Anybody got any explanation as everybody I have read since starting reading this last night with anything over TSH at 80 is hardly functioning.

When you stopped your Synthroid before RAI, how long did you have to be off it?  I had RAI in June.  I still have some thyroid left and am having a hard time getting regulated on the Synthroid, so my endo is talking about doing RAI again. Also, how long after RAI do you have wait before going by on?

My TSH was tested this week and came back 89.  Yes, there are many other problems that can or will occur with a level as high as yours.  With mine at 89, I now have high bood pressure, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (infertile), high cholesterol and tri's, and insulin problems, high testosterone, and sure more things I don't know about.  I'm now on medication for all of these things except the PCOS.  The Dr. claims these symptoms will go away as my thyroid is regulated. It's the dr. fault it is at 89.  It was at 30 and he switch my thyroid medication to the wrong dosage and made a bad situation worse.  Be careful and do research, and demand other testing.  Good luck! I can't imagine how you feel with it that high because I feel horrible all the time with it at 89.

I recently had to go off my synthroid and on a no-iodine diet for I-131 radiation treatment following thyroid cancer.  My TSH level was tested at 75.9 and I could barely move.  I was extremely cold, very depressed (cried or wanted to scream all the time), hurt everywhere, and had massive muscle cramps.  How are you feeling with such a high TSH???  

The technicians in the nuclear medicine department at the hospital said the highest TSH they had seen was roughly 200 and that woman was so weak she had to be brought in in a wheelchair.  

How are you functioning?  Is this your first TSH test and, if not, what have your previous labs shown (TSH, antibodies)?  Did your doctor give you a diagnosis and treatment plan?

Forgot to mention my doc started me off on 150mcg Synthroid.

Only the hypothyroidism is the risk -- I have seen levels this high -- prompt treatment is necessary -- work closely with your doctor to get the levels normalized.  It may take your body several months (even after normalizing TSH) to feel better.

Cholesterol will be very high now due to the hypothyroidism -- would NOT start cholesterol treatment at this stage (could increase risk of muscle damage related to the cholesterol meds).  Recheck cholesterol after normalizing TSH if indicated.
