Synthroid

Back in 2004 I was diagnosed with low stage follicular variant papillary carcinoma and had a total thyroidectomy with central neck dissection.  Since then with either generic form or the present synthroid 150 mcg I've been suffering with a sore tongue and a bitter taste in my mouth.   (A white coating as well)   The doc gave me penicillian back in Jan and it seemed to clear up for about 2 wks and now it's back again.

I've had blood work done on and off since 2006 "Always having a slightly elevated wbc, ABS Lymph & Neut count along with total protein.  I've been Soooo.... Tired....... and run down, feel very weak and most of the time I ache as though I'm coming down with something when I'm really not.  I'M TIRED OF BEING TIRED!!!!!!!
My last TSH was 0.25 and am due for another check in June.

The doc said I may have to see an ENT for the tongue issue?   Any sugguestions or recommendations on the types of doc I should see.

Some times I feel as though "Maybe this is all in my head"  OR  "Maybe I'm lead to believe it's all in my head????
That's what most doc want you to believe anyway.

All I want is to fee somewhat NORMAL!  Just A LITTLE

Just an after thought.
Yeast/Fungal Overgrowth (Candidias) has been found to be a factor in many disorders and is found in millions of people who can not figure out what is wrong with them. It is very difficult to diagnose.
There are 80 disease/medical conditions and 13 drug side effect that causes of sore tongue: A vitamin B(s) deficiency or Riboflavin deficiency (vitamin B2), anemia, Iron deficiency anemia, Pernicious anemia, minor viral disease, smoking, etc., etc., etc.
There are 26 medical conditions causing White tongue. Oral candidiasis,  Candidiasis,  Leukoplakia,  Dehydration,  Immunosuppression, etc., etc., etc.
You said that doctor put you on antibiotics,  perhaps you need to be on the medication a little longer. Oral thrush is very hard to clear up and takes the longest to clear. Some symptoms: FATIGUE, unrefreshing sleep for example. There is a very simple home test, but I am reluctant to post it here.  Good luck. Hope you find answer to it all.

My tongue issue really doesn't burn but HURTS. It appears that any type of food makes it hurt worse. The bitter taste is awful as well.
Well like I said, I'll have to go see the doc ONCE AGAIN !
He's going to want to send me to an ENT?   Any sugguestions on what type of docs out there for a tongue??

The first time I developed the sore tonge the doc thought it was a yeast infectiond and then later thought maybe it could be an infection. Thats when he perscribed Penicillian. It did help for a couple of weeks and then reappeared????

Thank You!
I'm still trying to resolve the tired issue for a couple of years now.
I forgot to mention that I'm Vit D deficient as well and was started on 50000 IU for a month and then 2000 IU for fall and winter & 1000 IU for spring & summer.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Some people do have burning/taste changes w/ thyroid meds -- changing brands sometimes helps.  The white tongue must also prompt the question of infection -- which may need further evaluation if changing to a different brand (ie levoxyl or unithroid in this case) does not resolve the problem.

Fatigue is the most common concern from all patients -- thyroid and non-thyroid -- the tsh of 0.26 suggests adequate levels, work with your doctor to find out the cause of the fatigue.  In many/most cases, it is not thyroid related.

I have white tongue and "burning" as you describe. Since I switched my throid meds I now had relief.

After Dr Lupo give you his response and if you have more questions - feel free to post on the community board - many there also experience this symptom.
