After TT

On feb 19 I had total lthyirodectomy.I was prescribed synthroid. I am feeling awful! I have a bad headache and I am very nauseated. Is this something that is normal and I just need to adjust to medication and life without my thyroid.? Any thoughts?

Maybe a little of both.  But I would put a call into the drs and let them know how you feel.  The 19th is not long ago at all.

Not long after my TT a blood test showed the med had to be increased a little, that helped.  Also, some suggested changes that helped me involved the way to take meds.  They were: increasing the amount of water to a full glass; waiting 2 hrs (not the usual 1 hr) before eating or drinking; spacing out other meds/vits as far away as possible from taking thyroid med.  That second one there made a huge difference with nausea and other things I'd been experiencing.

Another change that came later was when insurance coverage forced me to change from Synthroid to Levoxyl - another brand named med.  I wasn't on Synthroid very long but did notice a improvement after that switch.  I was told, though, that I would have eventually felt better on Synthroid anyway.

I wasn't feeling so great in the beginning either but things did get better.  It takes time but keep on your drs, that's what their there for.  I hated to make calls to the dr and had to be reminded they expect it after these surgeries.

Best wishes.

Did you start on the meds right after your TT?  It does take a while for them to get in your system and start to work.  The symptoms that you're having point to being hypo.  If the nausea gets too bad, you can get anti-nausea meds to help while you're trying to get your levels in check.

Being hypo is an awful feeling.  There are a host of symptoms.....none of them very much fun.  Give it some time, and you'll feel a lot better.  Meanwhile, keep posting.  There are a lot of good, supportive people out here!!
