The size matters and being that it is over 1cm, monitoring it is key...if there are no abnormal cells within the nodules.
I have learned from being on this site that labs are very important to know and one in particular (FT3)...most doc's will use TSH as a guide first and foremost even when the patient isn't feeling well. Although in range, doesn't mean that he will not have symptoms related to a thyroid condition. Being that it runs in the family, he may more than likely have it as well.
He was not aware of any thyroid problems. He is a diabetic (pills). The knot on his neck was the concern that took him to the doctor. Then the test showed things we didn't know. We did get his thyroid blood work back today. T4 1.05 THS 1.31 which seems to be in range. Will have to wait for the biopsy reports. We did find out that his mom had Hashimoto many years ago. He wasn't even aware of it.
Thanks authrjenn for the advise.
Thanks for the input you two. I have researched on the nodules just didn't like the size of the nodule.
have it killed off by radiation and go on Armour thyroid. Push for this and avoid synthroid. Read" Stop the thyroid Madness". You will see what I mean.
Thyroid nodules are very common and often times occur with a thyroid condition. The key is to have a fine needle aspiration (FNA) to detect any abnormal cells. Being that the size alone is sort of big (mine was 3.7cm), it needs to be monitored if not removed depending on the biopsy. Keep in mind that nodules do grow in size and in number. Most nodules are benign and can be left alone if it does not interfere with the well being of the patient..such as (feeling of choking, difficulty or painful swallowing & hoarseness)
Does your husband have any thyroid problems that he is aware of??
