Thanks to everyone, I appreciate all the advice and I will definately take it all on board.
Basically any vitamin cream will work but its the rubbing or massage that will keep scar tissue at bay.
The Vit, E capsules are great as I said.
Just try to avoid anything that is perfumed.
I am post 2mos and counting and although my scar is healing fine, i have tenderness and numbness in the area due to the surgery, i'm sure. It's basically the same feeling that i've in the area of my stomach after a Cesarean Section. I'm sure that it is the nerves still healing and the only cream that i have been applying was (spectra gel) that the doc recommended to prevent keloid. I'm pretty sure that the vitamin creams work great.
hmmm...smilerdeb thats a great idea. I might try just the oil from the capsule...thanks alot!!
You can buy Vitamin # oil capsules and pierce the capsule and rub it into your scar (a lot easier than cream).
I did this after shoulder reconstruction and found pricking the oil capsules and spreading on the scar worked wonders.
The gentle massaging also kept the scar tissue at bay and both shoulder recos turned out fine (my scar is approx. 6 inches over the shoulder).
Thats like mine, it doesnt hurt just is sensitive and feels weird. I still have it covered with micropore tape so Im not using sunscreen yet but i have been told as soon as the tape comes off in a few weeks I must use suncream everyday. Im just usuing vitamin E cream at the moment every 2nd day to help with the healing, which I put on when Im changing the tape. Thanks.
The sensitivity eventually goes away. For about 2 months the area about 1" above and below my scar felt odd. Didn't hurt but it just felt really odd. Couldn't wear any type of shirt that touched it. I used Mederma scar cream (generic from Walmart) and lots of sunscreen every day, even if it was raining. My surgeon told me that the sunscreen for 1 full year was one of the most important things to do to minimize scarring and to speed up the entire healing process. Just started using vitamin E about 4 weeks ago. It's now 8 months later and unless I actually touch the scar I don't feel anything different.
thanks for the reply, for me its been just over 3 weeks and I have been told to rub vitamin E cream into it every 2nd day and even that is quite uncomfortable still...Im hoping it will heal soon. Thanks alot.
It does take time for the nerve endings to rejoin and heal. I had two surgeries within 5 months and it has been now 2 years since then, and I find I can easily put moisturiser on my neck, but not a tight necked t-shirt!
Some people sail through, some take longer. Hopefully for you it will be sooner!
Cheers!
