thyroid medication

i have hashimoto's. was told i should begin with medication (25 mcg) to get down my levels, especially considering i want to get pregnant in the near future. i'm debating between synthroid an armour. any experience with both and recommendations based on that? also, am i going to have to continually up my doses to where my own thyroid no longer functions? i prefer to stay at a low dosage. does taking medication slowly deteriorate my own thyroid? i worry about that.

Taking the meds will not cause your thyroid to deteriorate. It simply replaces the hormone your thyroid isn't making enough of.
Most people use levothyroxine meds like Synthroid. Some people swear by Armour. I think it is a personal preference.
Starting meds early in the course of the disease will prevent overt hypothyroidism with it's nasty health consequences.
You may need dose increases periodically. It depends on how the Hashi's progresses with you.
