Thyroid

Hello,
I just started taking my priscription of Levothy...50 mcg Today and yes on an empty stomach.  I was here reading many member stories and I sure as hell not comfortable hearing all the horror for others (taking this drug).  Loss hair, tiredness - more serious that before, extra weight on, sleepless nights, etc.  I will take it for 7 days and if any horror feelings I will quit taking them.  I feel fine for the last three weeks since I was told that I need this drug.  I do not remember my count but I hope to get this straight with my doctor on Thursday.
I put on some serious weight (147 lbs to 210 lbs) on over the years.  I have loss weight three times before only to put the crap back on.  I feel hopeless and I am now not comfortable taking some pill that will give me more damn symptoms / sickness / bad feelings or headaches than I need.

Anyone taking this Meds. had any thing good to say?

codysly

Many people blame the thyroid med when they first start on it when in actual fact , they arent told that it may take a few weeks for the meds to stay in their system and to stabilise the meds.

Doctors/Endos should explain this to people but they dont so like me when I first started meds, I thought....'why dont i feel good?'.

I say it takes a good 4 weeks before the labs are ready to be done...some it takes 6 weeks.

Great to hear that you are doing well Barb...you deserve it as youve worked hard for it. xxx

Your symptoms are not from the med, they are from the hypothyroidism.  Once you get on the med and start getting your hormone levels to a point that's right for you, you should start feeling gradually better.  It takes about 5-6 weeks before you get the full benefit of the med, but you may begin seeing small improvements sooner.

I've been on levo for almost 2 years and am now at a point where I feel human again; actually some days I even feel awesome; and I can actually make it through most days without the driving need for several naps...........

If you can post your labs, along with reference ranges; members can comment more fully.

Best of luck to you both

Hi, i started taking levothyroxine two days ago 25mcg, by reading what other people have written it sounds like their dose was not right for them and they could have possibly started showing signs of hyperthyroidism, I am not expert I am just going by what I have read. I also read to many things about this med before taking it, luckily i have stumbled across some websites where there are many positive reviews about it also so don't go to much  by what other people say, everyone is different, I am feeling nausea but i was feeling that before so I know it is not the med just my body being rubbish. i hope you get on well with it as do i hope that i do too!!

I have been taking a T4 med for nearly 2 years now and feel good.
Stop taking your meds and eventually you will get very sick and could possibly die.
The thyroid regulates EVERY organ in your body.
When it doesnt get the thyroid hormone it needs , you can go into myexedema coma after a period of time.
I think you need to research everything about Hypothyroidism and also get your antibodys tested for Hashimoto's.

If you are on a T4 med now, you will most probably be on it for life if you have Hashi's.

Dont stop taking the med please, until you have spoken to your Doc and also get a print out of your labs and others will help you here.

Sorry for this posting ...I know you didnt want to hear the worst but ...I say it as I see it..truthfully.
