graves recurrent, thyroid showing a bit

hi i had graves' hyperthyroid four years ago, recurrent now for a few months,
i've been on neomercazole to moderate the symptoms and thyroid function tests.
i would be happy with this and the three-monthly blood tests except there is a hint of my thyroid gland just starting to show at my throat.
SHOULD I GET a SPECIALIST?
my gp is away (for.months) and was quite happy with me self-medicating but that was some time ago. she never really said i should_ see a specialist.
any other thoughs? thanks.. :)0

If i was in your situation i'd see another doctor and have my thyroid labs retested.  Results should be available in a few days.  Seeing a specialist on the other hand can takes months (you may be lucky to get in early due to a cancellation).  My endo has around a two month wait. You may still want to ask for a referral at your appointment with the doctor as well. You can either ask for a specific specialist or the doctor will just choose specialist from a list.

Specialists in general charge over $300 an hour. If you don't have insurance, then you pay up front and Medicare pays back 75% into your bank account. There is also a Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme if you need to travel to see a specialist.
