Eltroxin?? T4 only!

I have just been told by another MH user that Eltroxin is a T4 med only???? (thank you so much by the way)

I never knew this!!!! So this means that as my thyroid is failing its not making enough T3???

Therfore why Im on feeling any better????

Eltroxin is another name for syntroid....  And in my last tests the Dr only checked my T4 and not my T3.....

So maybe I might benifit from some T3????

Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

I will look into this more but its just a thought well a question more than anything!

Cheers all!

It doesnt surpise me that an FT3 hasnt been done.
Most Doctors dont do it unless you really demand it.......
Your FT3 should be near top of the range for you to feel good and your FT4 about 2/3 of the way up the range.
If your FT3 is low and your FT4 2/3 of the way up the range, then you arent converting too well and would therefore benefit from a T3 med.

Also read my posting on Eltroxin...they have reformulated the pills and a lot are complaining about side effects from it.
I am on Eutroxig (thyroxine sodium) and have had no side effects from it and doing pretty well on it.
Well enough to return back to work 5 months after RAI and 2 months after TT but I must add that I am super drug sensitive so any med I take..works well on me (sometimes too well) lol.

Maybe Diotroxin is for you (a combo of T4 and T3 med) ?

Eltroxin is also known as levothyroxine and yes it is only a T4 medication.
In Australia I have Oroxine same as the others, only a T4 and I am really struggling to find a doctor who will help me out to take a bit of T3.
Alot of doctors don't believe adding a bit of T3 does good. But the evidence of the patients surely ring loud!
The Free T3 should be tested as that is important to know if the Free T4 is actually working. Having the Free T4 just shows your medication IS in your body, the Free T3 shows that the thyroid (and other various organs) are changing it correctly and using the T4!
I think you ought to ask for some T3 and see how you feel..I bet a lot better!
Cheers!
