Heterogeneous nodule

Hi
I am new and confused ! I have been having issues for over a year now with feeling like I can't swallow or the food feels stuck in the area behind my thyroid. I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule about 4 years ago . I take synthroid for hypothyroidism. My family Dr sent me to a gastro specialist and he put a tube down my throat and tried to stretch it. I kept asking if the nodule could be the cause and was told no. So I finally convinced my family dr to do another ultra sound on my thyroid as it really felt larger. The results were that the nodule had grown significantly and is now over 4 cm in size. I am seeing a ENT next week who specializes in thyroids. So when the results came back I once again asked my family dr if it could be why I am having trouble swallowing and it feels so heavy . He said maybe yes and maybe no . I wanted to scream !  Can it be ? Has anyone else felt like this?
I am also curious about the same time they found the nodule in the first place I was also diagnosed with Fibromyalgia . I am curious if it may actually be my Thyroid causing all the symptoms.
I would sure appreciate any thoughts you may have. I wonder if I may end up having the nodule out.
                 Thanks

Thank you for answering.  I think I am (after reading lots about it) ready and more then willing to have it removed. How is the recovery and is it long ?  I sure hope that like you I will be able to swallow properly again and the feeling of heaviness will be gone.
  How are you doing now?

You will need an FNA biopsy, but with a nodule that big they will want to remove it.  It won't go away and probably will get bigger.  I had swallowing issues, after my thyroid was removed they went away.  I had four nodules from .8 cm up to 2.1.  I also had cancer, but your chances for that are slim.  Lobectomy is a pretty easy operation, I had two, no trouble.  You should make sure the ENT is experienced, though, it is a delicate operation.
