My doctor just told me I was hypothyroid with a TSH of 5.85 and gave a prescription for synthroid(sp). I am just finishing my first trimester of pregnacy. I have no symtoms at all of hypothyroidism, no family history of thryoid disease and no antibodies in my blood. I feel very uncomfortable taking a drug during pregnancy that I don't think I need. I had no trouble getting pregnant. This is my second pregnancy, first one had no complications with healthy 9 lb baby. He only tested my thryoid as a routine test he does to all patients. Isn't it possible these TSH levels were just temporarily high with all that is going on hormonally in my body at the moment? I just can't belive how quickly I was prescribed a medicine, possibly for life, through only one blood test. Does this seem strange?
