Hypothyroidism and related conditions

Hi all,

I was just wondering if there are any hypothyroids out there who have other conditions that may be related to Hypothyroidism?
I've seen articles on the internet stating that people with Hypothyroidism are at higher risk for having depression and other related conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), S.A.D syndrome and Fibromyalgia.
Despite being treated for my hypothyroidism for the last 6 years and having stable levels, I still get chronically tired and weak. The doctors have written chronic fatigue as a symptom I suffer with but haven't diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome..........they have instead told me I have S.A.D syndrome which I don't belive to be true as I have bad periods of lethargy even in the summer. I have tried many different brands of anti-depressants and they make me feel worse.
Anyone out there willing to share their views or situations??

Thankyou in advance!

Hayley xx

I'm really disappointed, I just had tests done Saturday and the dr office called today saying the results were normal.  I asked what we were doing next & she said the dr said if the sympthoms continue to come back in and we would do other test.  My main concern is the weight gain so he wants me to see how working out with my new personal trainer goes until Oct and we'll take it from there.  I had high hope he would do more since he told me the levels could read normal and I can still be hypo from something more underlying.

i also have gastroparesis, but i am not convinced one has to do with the other.  in my case, my Hashi's and hypo caused my doctor to put me on a low dose of levothyroxine, which has since cause me to become hyperthyroid and my hair is falling out and my weight is falling off me on a daily basis.  my gastoparesis (chronic full stomach and delayed stomach emptying) make it hard for me to eat enough food during the day, so that combined wih my hyper state is really doing damage to my body.  the funny thing is, i FEEL fine... (other than my always full stomach) and i have no memory or depression or fatigue issues.

still, it sucks to be underweight and losing all my wonderful hair and not able to fix it.

Yes I can totally relate to the memory loss and hair loss..................I think the problem is that when bloods show that the thyroid levels aren't quite right, its automatically assumed its the thyroid alone playing up............but to look at the bigger picture, the thyroid is controlled by the pituitary gland in the brain......the pituitary gland also controls most of the other "mechanics" in the body which means a lot of problems can come about from having a dodgy pituitary. If thyroid tests are coming back with good results, my guess is that tests on other parts of the body (controlled by the pituitary) should be tested or examined.

I had part of my thyroid removed in April 02, was never put on medications as I was told the right side would function fine and produce enough.  In Sept 02 I went for my check up, all levels tested normal but I felt like ****, tired, hair thinning and falling out, a BAD case of depression, dry skin, couldn't remember much and the only thing that happended when I talked to my dr was he put me on Paxil CR for the depression.  He said since my thyroid levels were with in the normal range the symptoms I was having had nothing to do with it.

Well, here we are 5 years after having the surgery, memory is ****, I stay tired even when I haven't done anything but sat and watched tv, hair is still thinning, skin still dry, can't sleep at night, I went from weighing 165 to 231 and no matter what I do, I can not lose the weight.  Tomorrow I get my thyroid levels tested to see if they are still normal.  If they are my dr is going to look into something else.  He said you can still have normal levels and still have hypothyrodism.  Once I get my results back I'll let you know.

I will tell you that my mom had part of her thyroid removed found out it was hashimoto.  He calcium was almost deplited due to her thyroid.  She can barely remember stuff that I told her last week sometime yesterday.  I think she needs depression meds too because there are times I call to talk to her and she's just sad, crying or depressed and it's according to her for no reason. Then there times she's realllllyyyyy irritable and it's just best not to talk to her because she might bite your head off.
