I agree with ducky; you need to see your doctor. There are a lot of things that can cause edema, and self medicating can get you into trouble.
My uncle had lympodemia; his lymphnodes were basically dead from his chest down. Now he was a BIG man (6 foot, 700+lbs), but if he got sick he would gain 50-100lbs in a leg almost over night- it would swell to 2-3x it's normal size. He had a very extreme form of edema. Anyway, it look and feel weird. Similar to a hard basketball. It felt full of something but it didn't feel like fat and it didn't act like fat either. His case was really severe, but in the end it took his life. He was so immunocompromised that he battled an opportunistic infection in his leg for 3 weeks before his body went into shock. His illness wasn't all due to the lympodema but a good deal was and his body was just too weak to handle it.
Please see dr. I know there are at least several causes of edema and I know that at least for my uncle it was extremely sever, painful, and debilitating. If it can get to be even half as bad as my uncle's was, that's just not worth waiting on.
I got rid of the edema by taking modest supplements of potassium iodide. I also lost the weight of the water, of course.
