Just discovered High TSH what next ?

Iam 25 yr old Male weighing 77 Kg and height 5.6

I was feeling like **** for last year ( Fatigue, Leg parathesis, Muscle pain, breathing problem) so I went to the doctor to get complete check up so it turned out to be High TSH

TSH - 9.9
T4 - 1.0 ng/dl
T3 - 0.31 ng/dl

So doctor prescribed Thyronorm 50 mg and asked me to see him after 3 months.

Is there any other test I need to do to determine the cause of High TSH like antibody analysis ?

Will I have to take this medicine for entire life ? Are there any side effects ?

We are not experts, just fellow patients.

Thyronorm (generic levothyroxine) should be taken on an empty stomach, usually first thing in the morning.  Afterwards, don't eat or drink anything for half to one hour.  Separate other meds and supplements by four hours to avoid interference with absorption.

Antibody testing (TPOab and TGab) is a good idea.  It doesn't change the treatment, that's true, but it can help to explain symptoms and guide treatment.

Once you start on replacement hormones, you are on them for the rest of your life, unless your thyroiditis is one of the "temporary" types, e.g. DeQuervain's or silent - these are relatively rare.

Side effects are minimal as long as your dosage is adjusted properly.  Most side effects are the result of over- or under-medication.  Some people are mildly allegric to the binders in some of the brands (or the generic).  Usually, switching brands cures this.

Antibody testing won't change the treatment. You can ask for it to verify the likely course of the disease though.
Probably on them for life, yes.
