Hello

I switched from synthroid to levoxyl a few months ago.  I was itchy and breaking out while on synthroid and all went away with the switch.  Hope this helps.

Medically, the switch from Tirosint to Levoxyl was totally painless, though I did go from 88 mcg to 100 mcg, but I was ready to do that on Tirosint, as well. I feel as good, or better, than I did on Tirosint.  The best part is that my wallet loves the price difference.

I just picked up my refill yesterday, so I'm good to go for another 90 days.

Been a while so I was just curious how you are doing on the switch from
Tirosint to Levoxyl?

I was doing very well on Tirosint, but the price kept increasing and I now, feel that I can no longer justify the cost.

When I first started taking it, back in 2009, I was paying about $89 for a 3 month supply - actually 84 days, because it's packed in boxes of 28 capsules/box and I'd get 3 boxes.  I could justify the $89, but in Sept of last year the price doubled and the same 84 capsules cost $169; then in Dec the price increased again and in April, once again.  The original $89 price tag is now about $325.

My insurance has never covered it and now that I'm on Medicare, my supplement doesn't cover it, either.  I've contacted the company and from what they tell me, the cost will continue to rise.  They do have programs to help pay for the medication, but I don't qualify for them, because I'm not indigent.

In contrast, I bought a 3 month (90 day) supply of Levoxyl for $27, with insurance sharing the cost.   I took the first one this morning.

I'd love to hear how you do on it.  We're you not feeling well on Tirosint?

We have a couple members who have been back on Levoxyl since March when it came back on the market - one may pop in to comment, but it's doubtful, at this time.  That person is doing well on it; I haven't heard from the other for a while, but I think they are too.

The problem was with an oxygen absorbing canister within the bottle, not the medication, itself.  To my knowledge there was no reformulation of the med.

I'm going to be finishing up the last of my Tirosint on Thursday, so will be starting Levoxyl on Friday.  I can let you know how it goes, but I have no qualms about starting it.
