Neck pain goes away when?

I was recently diagnosed with Hashi's.

I am on my 5th day of taking Synthroid 50mg and Selenium 200mg.
About when can I expect the neck pain to go away?

Thanks.
I might give that a try sometime.
Though my symptoms are mild in comparison.

I don't have much neck pain now.
I am pretty good about remembering to take the Synthroid in the morning.
But, sometimes I forget the Selenium or eat something Goitrogenous.
If I do, my thyroid sure lets me know.

At the beginning of our trip to SEAsia, I was bloated and constipated.
I had to quit ordering from the western menu.
I would have fruit and yogurt for breakfast and dinner.
For lunch, I would have just fried rice with veggies.
Some of those veggies might not have been fully cooked and been a bit of a kick to the thyroid, but getting my digestion moving again was worth it.
I lost about 10 pounds on the trip.
Feeling a lot healthier now.

I have the same problem but my neck swelling and voice cracking to the point that I would lose my Voice all the time.  My Son suggested to me to try Echinacea Extract.  Which I was willing to try anything.  I even broke down with skin axem. with no blisters all over my hands and feet.  I try it,  It has been 15 years now.  I do not lose my Voice. My Husband may not be as happy as I.  lol.  But it has helped me,  At any sign of sore I just start taking the echinacea.  I do not talk it unless I am having problems that way it seems to work.  Thought it may help you.  If you wanted to give it a try.  Good Luck.

I will be gone to SEAsia almost a month.
I got a few vaccines and prescriptions from the travel doctor.
But, I am pretty much not going to be able to followup with an endo while gone.

I don't blame you -- I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my doctor either after just being diagnosed.  When will you be back to see him/her again?  What will you do if you need adjustments to your med while you are gone?

Thanks.
I really don't know what blood tests they ran.
They ran a lot of tests, but it was all Greek to me.

I am going to try to see my endo tomorrow.
That will be the last chance before leaving the country for awhile.
I am not feeling real secure in leaving here while so recently diagnosed.

5 days of taking synthroid is not nearly long enough to feel much difference.  Do you know what your antibody count was or what criteria was used to diagnose Hashi's?

It takes at least 5-6 weeks to get the full effect of the thyroid med since it has to build in your system.  Then you should be tested again to make sure your levels are where they need to be.

Tamra is right --- selenium MAY help with the neck pain/swelling, but please be aware that it does NOT work for everyone.  If you aren't deficient in it, taking supplements may not do anything for you.  You might also try using a cool cloth on your neck and take a mild pain killer, such as aleve, ibuprophen, tylenol -- whichever you normally use.

Last, but not least -- don't ever rub or irritate you thyroid area.  I know sometimes, it's hard to resist trying to "feel the thyroid" to see if it's really swelled as much as it feels like, but resist that temptation.  All you do is make it worse.

You ladies are having it much worse than I am.
My temp was always sub-normal, about 96.5 F.
That runs in the family.

Before I quit smoking and menopause, I was more likely to feel cold.
Now, I slowly fluctuate between hot and cold.
My energy level is down, and I am more prone to depression, though I was pretty level before.
I was always skinny up until about 8 years ago, but I blame German food for that...and age, menopause, and not smoking.
I don't sleep as well as I used to.
But, I really don't have all that many symptoms compared to your ladies.
And I am almost 52.

So, I am still suspicious that puppy scratches directly infected my thyroid.
Might have even been something fungal, that they haven't tested for.

My sister suffered with a similar problem a year or two before they finally found the infection by MRI and prescribed the right antibiotic.

I just want my neck to stop hurting.

I am leaving soon to got to Asia, and wonder if I am going to get really sick there, since I couldn't get well before I left.

My hubby is a saint for listening to me gripe for so long, but even he has his limits. That's why I gripe on this forum.

Have you had your antibodies tested for Hashimoto's Disease?
TGab and Anti-TPO blood tests.

Also, when was your last thyroid ultrasound? Do you know if you have goiter?

If 125 mcg of Synthroid isn't working, then post your labs when you get them. I'm curious to see your FT3 levels. Maybe you need an FT3 drug like Cytomel.

My poop meds have been reduced to Magnesium three times daily, plus Cirtucel at night. My neck pain is much better with Selenium, which works well for Hashis.

I also have given up gluten and have limited my soy based foods. That has helped with the IBS, GERD and heartburn.

Oh my ..Tamra...you have the same exact symptoms as I do...The back of the neck head pain  was a puzzler until I just read your post! I complain to my husband all the time with these symptoms...sometimes I feel like a nut job because I complain about so much. Thursday I go back to the endo doc and get my blood results from several weeks ago and give more blood. I still feel like ****...125 mcg of synthroid! Also on estrogen patch, poop meds (24mcg amitza 2x daily), vitamin D, calcium, digestives(Align), and one Activa daily, and Nexium for GERD.

Patience. It depends on the person. It might take several months. I was bumped to .75 two weeks ago. The neck pain is better, tolerable.

Endometriosis (2 years ago – cured after one year of birth control)
Irregular/heavy periods and menstrual-like cramping in between periods
Ear pressure/pain
Voice is sometimes hoarse
Knee/joint pains – finger swelling and pain
Rash or scaly skin on neck, head, chest, chin, nose, right armpit down to waist

Do I really have Hashi's or some other sort of thyroiditis?
According to this page, I am not seeing neck pain as a symptom of Hashi's
