Can my high THS score be related to stress?

I am a 29 year old, healthy, active, happy man.  I just recieved my blood screening results from a voluntary test and am nervous about the results. My 'TSH, 3rd generation score is 19.5, says normal is .4-4.5.  My throat has felt a little swollen lately when I swallow.  I have been under alot of stress and unhealthy lifestyle for the last few months... cramming for tests...ect.  Could a summer away from stress and a healthy lifesyle reverse my TSH score? Do I need to worry?  Thank you!

Hi there. The test you had done is very much out dated. You need a TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, also anti-bodies done to really assess what is going on.
Whilst stress may make you feel pretty lousy, it is not stress that causes a rise in thyroid levels.
The fact you say you are having trouble swallowing indicates a goitre.  You really ought to be seeing a doctor and getting those tests I mentioned. Post the results here and we can help you find an answer.
BTW, going on a vacation never hurt anyone!
Cheers!

I have read that stress can aggravate autoimmune disorders. So if your thyroid problem is autoimmune related then sure stress can play a part, but reducing stress will not make your thyroid problem go away.
