Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I just got my ultrasound report and I am very nervous. I don't have an appointment with the endocrinologist until the end of May.
Last year while being treated for ovarian cancer they incidentally found thyroid nodules. Had an ultrasound and these were the characteristics:
From Jan 2010:
Right Thyroid:
In the upper pole of the right thyroid there is a 7 x 11 x 7 mm
dominantly cystic lesion which does show significantly increased
Doppler flow in the solid components. No microcalcifications.
In the mid pole of the thyroid there is a 10 x 6 x 10-mm solid
thyroid nodule with predominant peripheral vascular flow. No
microcalcifications.
No right sided adenopathy is detected.
Isthmus:
There is a 12 x 6 x 11 mm nodule with minimally increased Doppler
flow. No microcalcifications.
Left Thyroid:
In the upper pole the left thyroid there is a 7 x 5 x 3 mm
hypoechoic solid nodule without central flow or microcalcifications.
No left sided adenopathy is detected.
Went to endo, because my brother had papillary thyroid cancer he biopsied one of them. It came back benign. He said to follow up in one year.
Now it's one year later and this is the result of my ultrasound:
From Apr 2011:
Right Thyroid:
Nodule #1: mid pole, 1.2 x 0.9 by 1.7 cm, cystic, no internal flow,
no microcalcifications, slightly increased in size.
Nodule #2: Midpole, Complex cystic, 1.3 x 1.5 x 0.9 cm, no internal
flow, no microcalcifications, enlarged with more internal complexity.
No right sided adenopathy is detected.
Isthmus:
Nodule #1: (right isthmus), 0.8 x 0.7 x 0 .4 cm, predominantly solid,
no microcalcifications, no internal flow, slightly decreased in size.
nodule #2: (Left isthmus), 0.5 x 0 .2 cm, cystic no
microcalcifications.
Left Thyroid:
Nodule #1: Left midpole, 0.4 x 0.3 cm, cystic, no microcalcifications
are
No left sided adenopathy is detected.
The right lobe measures 4.3 cm in sagittal dimension.
The left lobe measures 3.6 cm in sagittal dimension.
I guess I am concerned about nodule #2 in the right thyroid, increased size and increased internal complexity. Is this something I need to worry about? My family history for cancer is bad....In the past 10 years...dad liver cancer, sister #1 breast cancer, sister # 2 breast cancer, brother prostate then thyroid cancer, and me ovarian cancer.
Thanks for any insight and I'm sorry this is so long.
