OUT OF KNOW WHERE HYPOGLYCEMIA ISSUES

Hello
About 6 weeks ago I saw a new Endo, my third one and (she) listened to my complaints (weight gain, massive tendonitis in feet and legs)and generally feeling off health wise to this appointment (I brought proof) of my weight gain see I lost and kept off 120 pound for over 6 years until my thyroidectomy (cancer) 13 months ago my original Endo(male)said my issues are in my head and I should see a specialist and take diet pills for my weight.

Fast forward back to new Endo (female) she was shocked to see what I looked like before wt.loss and during maintaining my weight loss and right now in person with 35 pound weight gain.

Back to my current issue I'm currently on 100mcg synthyroid and 15mcg Cytomel for almost 6 weeks (New) and been having issues with hypoglycemia issues after eating dinner (roughly hour or 2)after eating JUST after dinner not during the day.   I've been trimming back calories mostly Carbs not a lot but eliminating bread, pasta and sweets and so far I've had not lost weight but it's the first time I haven't gained weight. I won't have blood test until this coming week and will post the numbers but, could I be under or over medicated or obtaining another health blow ? My sugar test for as long as I can remember has been 70.

Sorry for such a long story....but it's been a really long ride.

I'm sorry for the problems you've been having... it sounds like you were doing a wonderful job of maintaining your weight loss until you became hypo.  I commend you for being able to maintain your weight for such a long time.

Can you give us an idea of what a typical dinner is like?  You might still be eating things that are spiking blood glucose, which in turn spikes insulin levels and after the food wears off in a short time, the hypoglycemia takes over.  That's called reactive hypoglycemia... I have it too...

Another question:  Are you taking all the cytomel in one dose or are you splitting it into multiple doses throughout the day?  Most of us on a T3 medication find that splitting the dose into 2 works best, as it keeps levels more stable.  If you're splitting the dose, what time(s) of the day are you taking them?

Hi Barb135,

I do split my T3 dose, I take 2 around 7:30 and 1 around lunch time. My dinners always consist of some type of protein, veggie and starch the weird thing is hypoglycemia symptoms only started shortly after starting my new Synthyroid/Cytomel dose.

Question: I read and article the other day and it stated that burning skin sensation is a sign of sugar issues, have you heard of this? If this is true I had this burning skin issues shortly after thyroidectomy and I have a numb big toe neurologist says I'm ok?
