TSH 5.17

I feel cold, fatigued, depressed but don't suffer with constipation - I actually have chronic diarrhea. My doctor says he won't do any more tests because I'm in the normal range with a TSH of 5.17.  Despite diarrhea I am amazed my weight has remained fairly consistant. Could I have a thyroid problem?

HA! I was wondering if quitting was what sent my thyroid over the edge. WHO KNOWS!
Good luck.

Thanks, I will. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who feels 'on the edge!'  Well done for quitting smoking!  I (stupidly!) still smoke and was wondering if I've contributed to my current health problems. All the best!

5.17 is in the high range. I think it would be a good time for a second opinion.

The doctor I went to was awful! I didn't want to cry in front of him, so just thanked him politely (cos I'm a wimp!) and slunk out of his office. He told me that although the lab report said I needed further investigation I was in a normal range. He refused to test further. I have cried all week because I feel like a hypochondriac (can't spell that!) I don't know much about thyroid problems. I feel so tired and am so ashamed how lazy I feel. I am just existing at the moment - I feel like I am swimming underwater all the time. I am sorry I'm whinging! Tomorrow I am going to a gastroenteroligist re chronic diahrrea.

Thank you so much for your messages. It gives me the courage to go to another doctor and to be more assertive about asking to see a specialist (endocrinologist?)  My PMT has become so unbearable, my husband should leave me!!!

My TSH is about that level as well and I have exact same symptoms.  I have Hashimoto's and take levothyroxine.  (just began it about a week ago).  Did they check your thyroid antibodies?

Good luck!

I would change doctors - listen to your own body and look for help - took me a good year to get someone to listen and get things normal

I don't think your Dr is right, at that level I would assume hypo. Is this an endo.? If not then maybe you should be looking for one. You know how you feel & your Dr shouldn't just brush you off. It sure sounds like hypo to me.
