Raising meds? Need help quickly.

Okay, I have been diagnosed with hashi's. TSH is 3.85
Free T3 is 3.0
T4 not recently tested.

Endo won't do anything
Gyno wants me to raise my dose from .50mcgs to .75 mcg's
as an experiment before I can get into a differnt endo in about a month

I am scared to raise my dose, even though my TSH seems to indicate I need to, but I havent' had my T4 tested.
In this kind of jump of meds, will I feel weird or sick?
What are signs I'm too high, is it normal to feel high for the first couple days...
I DO NOT want to be hypo but HYPER isn't an option either.
I'm on Levothyroxine, if anyone can give me some advice quickly I would appreciate it.
Thanks..God bless.

Hi,

I think you should be fine to increase from 50 mcg to 75 mcg.

Let usknow how you go.

Oh okay, just thought you might. I know FSH and LH are kind of connected with the pituatary gland and thyroid issues effect that....no they didn't say pituitary tumor, thank God...(:.....I've just read it...thats what I meant about "them" scaring you, etc. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it.

Sorry, but I don't know much about that.  My Hashi's was post-menopausal, so I haven't explored that much.  I do know that when one part of the endocrine system is off it often throws other parts off as well, so until your meds are adjusted properly, you won't know.

Why are they talking pituitary tumor?  Just because thyroid hormones are off as well as LH and FSH?

Do you know anything about low FSH and LH with Hashi's? My gyno said mine are low...and i'm wondering if its related to my meds being off? They try to freak you out with pituatary gland tumor stuff....whatchya think? Thanks.

Assuming your FT3 range is approximately 2.0-4.2, it looks like you probably have room for that increase.  Your TSH is, of course, saying your pituitary would like an increase.

However, that's a pretty big jump all at once.  What about asking your gyn how she'd feel about your alternating 50/75 for a couple of weeks (or taking half of each every day).  I agree that hypER is not a pleasant alternative to hypo.  I'll take hypo any day given the choice.  The best way to avoid hyper is to increase slowly, especially when you might be getting close to optimal.

Good luck...
