Recent Thyroidectomy

I recently had a total thyroidectomy for two very large goiters.  I initially only went in to have one side removed, but my Dr. Said the other had 4 large nodjuals in it as well and he couldn't save it.  It's been one week and three days now.  Although my speach is back to amost normal, I still get tired awful fast.  Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of physical support from  my family and I still have to get up and cook and clean for my family. I'm also the only income my family has and need to get back to work ASAP.  I only took 2 weeks off and now my Dr. wants me to stay home for 4 weeks! (Which isn't happening).  Any suggestions on how I can get through all this and still keep my sanity?  To top it all off, my neck still hurts so much I can't get comfortable at all in bed yet, so I'm not sleeping.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks!

Chery above makes a good point about meds.  Even more reason to stay home.

OT: The specific reference to Boston Market gave me a chuckle - they have great meatloaf!  Also, it's funny, what people refer to as 'take in' is referred to as 'take out' where I live.

Surgery takes alot out of you and right now you are adjusting to meds I assume, too?  They take a few weeks to kick in and your stores of hormone are probably beginning to deplete and Synthroid kicking in.

I had a partial 1/07 and my other side never started to work.  I didn't feel good until about 2-3 weeks post op and many are so different.

The neck pain is the worst (muscle) so don't over do it the best you can.

Boston Market and take in is the best way to go right now and no bending over to swoop up kids' toys from the floor .. that hurt alot as I recall, too.

Honestly, if you can even compromise and stay home 3 weeks, I would.  I say this because your dr is recommending a longer that usual recuperation period.  Perhaps he knows something in your case is needing this.

All this surgery stuff came at the worst, most stressful time in my life, so I know how you feel.  But after surgery I had a lot of complications arise and looking back I wonder if having rested longer would have averted some of that.

With your best interest at heart...I wish you well.
