Hypothyroid and Insomnia

I'm a 51 yr old man; have been taking Synthroid in ever-increasing doses since age 43 when I was diagnosed.  My problem is crushing insomnia.  It started about the same time as the hypothyroidism, and sometimes gets better - but I have sleep crises about twice each month - ruins my productivity at home and work.  I can go days without sleep.  Sleep drugs help but leave me in bad shape.  I want to know why this is happening and what treatment might work - I've seen many doctors, all of whom have been no help whatsoever!  I've noticed that soy protein exacerbates the problem - must avoid it.  Has anybody ever heard of this - or am I the only one on the planet with this set of problems?  Thanks!

I have insomnia and cannot sleep at all on my own. I was hyperthyroid from Graves but still have insomnia. I take Rozarem with Benedryl. It puts me to sleep most of the time. However, the other night I felt my whole body get tired but my mind or head was completely awake. It was very weird.
