Solid Nodules

I've been Hashimotos since age 18, and not very comliant with medication-  I take it until I forget because I'm feeling good, and then it's out of control again.  I recently had an Ultrasound with the impression stating " There is a large heterogeneously solid nodule in the right lower lobe measuring 1.5cm x 1.3 cm x 1.5 cm."  The left thyroid contains innumerable ill-defined solid nodules.

I've recently been told I probably have SLE based on symptoms and labs.

I'm concerned about the nodules being solid (vs. fluid filled.) and curious if the SLE and thyroid are effecting the other or possibly a "false positive" for the SLE...

What should I expect?  My primary set up an appointment with a surgeon...I'm the type of person who likes to prepare for possible scenarios.  I can deal with anything, its the wondering that scares the hell out of me.

Thank you so much!

I agree with Smilerdeb, I would have an FNA of the larger nodule.  The recommedation to meet with the surgeon is likely due to the presence of multiple and large nodules and Hashimotos.  Surgery is sometimes recommended when Hashimoto's is uncontrolled by medication.  I would certainly press for a biopsy and seek multiple opinions before doing surgery.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder that may affect many organ systems within the body. In particular it is associated with a distinctive rash and joint pain, however the most potentially serious problems are due to effects on the brain and kidneys.

These symptoms can also be related to thyroid disorders.
Have you been tested for Lupus?
If not..get tested as I think maybe your issues at present are thyroid related and NOT Lupus.

Have you had a FNA (fine needle aspiration ) done yet?
This is more accurate than an ultrasound when it comes to nodules.
