Sub sternal goiter

Hello, I am scheduled for a TT on Jan. 8th. I was told by the surgeon that he will have a thoraic surgeon on stand by as he may havet o open my chest to remove my thyroid. I am worried about this and am wondering what the recovery time could be for this if they open my chest?

Thank you so much for the information. I am getting more anxious as the 8th approaches. Thanks I an i will keep my fingers crossed they can reach this thing without open other areas.  Sneezing surely would hurt, and of course it's that time of year, colds, allergies.. Great! LOL

Hi there I had a substernal goiter removed last year.it took me about a month to get back to work I was on light duty for about 3 months and I just now am feeling ttotally healed up although vacuuming bothers me.it takes a while for the sternum to heal.Just give yourself plenty of time to heal and take things easy and dont sneeze.lol I thought I was going to die when I sneezed.keep us posted on how your surgery goes.i pray you wont have to get your sternum opened up.
