Thyroid Trouble

I have had my thyroid checked my entire life!  I am thin, and always have been.  Over the past two years my TSH has risen.  In 06, 2 months after my hysterectomy,my TSH was 0.8.  In 2007, it was 1.76.  Now it is 2.56 and my doctor said that he wanted to put me on medicine if it goes past 3.  I attributed my slight weight gain to my surgery, but now I am wondering if the rise in my levels could be contributed to an antidepressant,  Lexapro, that I started right after my surgery, and have been taking ever since. Also, I was prescribed  Sprinolactone, a diuretic, for my acne flareups.  Over the past week and a half, I have taken myself off of these medications.  I have lost 4 pounds, and my appetite has decreased.  Could this be the reason my TSH levels had risen, the medications?

Apa-chi= Neck glands (Monier Williams p-49)
Ap-va = Neck (p-59)
Ardita =Spasm, hemiplegia Arda (84)
These glands look like peacock tail.
Thyroid gland

Peacock tail

…..Please see the color
This will look like horse neck (p-101)
heliotropium indicum  ( in tamil Thel-kodukku) (p-107) can be used
In thyroids, a wind pipe from neck to ear is blocked, and dislocated. This create a  serum which may  form inside the neck, this accumulates throughout neck and moves to face making it swell. And this serum eats the neck bone. This creates a vacuum between the bone joints, and fill this vacuum we are to use heliotropium indicum
The next choice is terminalia arjuna, which is called as Marutham , there are four varieties of this terminalia arjuna, White, red/ pink, blue and black.
Karuin:  A disease of neck to ear, due to uterus.(p-208)
These thyroids differ based on the strings, and herbals used according to the length!

Hey girls ~ I didn't have ANY trouble getting off those meds ~ just stopped ~ I'm not much of an addictive personality (other than having my own mind) ~ and I went off themeds and the weight didn't come off altogether I believe due to the miscarriages and then going on all the fertility meds ~ clomid~follistim~menopur~etc..etc....my belly bulge now is just rediculous, and I think I'm FINALLY pregnant ~ went to a new RE and he said he didn't believe in all those meds that he wanted to try this time of IUI with just Crinone suppositories ~ seems to have worked so far ~ the numbers were amazing (I've been told) ~ so DIRECTLY AFTER I have the baby (please GOD please..!!..) ~ I will go on a strict exercise regimine and drop the weight once and for all ~ people were shocked when I had my daighter 11yrs ago ~ I was up and walking around the block with her in the carriage two days after the C-section ~ the neighbors would come out and yell at me to get home and relax...yeah...right....I was up & exercising my butt off (tore two stitches, but it was worth it) ~ so I can't really do any dieting right now if I'm prego and will be doing a little exercise just to relieve stress, but HOPING the meds will somehow get OUT of my body.....anymore I don't know if it's those or the fertility drugs, but my belly looks like it has a tube around it ~ DH had to inject them like a smiley face around my belly button so I'm thinking it's GOT to be that now...don't really know ~

..have you girls caught the other strings tearing the wives' apart..??..W*T*F*..??..it's just horrible...

have a good day~

After I went off Prozac, it took months to lose the weight I had gained on it.  Give it six or seven months and you should start seeing a difference.  I never thought it would come off, but lo and behold, it finally did!

You stay in there.  I do believe that it takes a while for Lexapro to leave your system.  I, too, cannot believe how docs PUSH this medicine.  I am now in the process of changing doctors.  My doctor told me that Lexapro couldn't be a cause of my thyroid trouble.  Well, I am getting my levels checked in a few weeks.  But, I can tell you already that I know my thyroid is starting to work.  I gained 70 pounds with both of my children, and lost it over a few months.  My thyroid has always worked, and I refuse to believe that there is not a reason for my TSH levels being high.  Take control of your body!  You CAN do this!  Make sure you have a good doctor to help you!  You will get rid of the weight!!  Start an exercise program, you will also feel better. Getting off of Lexapro is a hard thing.....it is a powerful drug that doctors are not warning people about.  I am glad that our posts have given you some encouragment.  Hang in there, you're going to make it!

You girls give me hope ~ all I've read on this Thyroid string is how it makes you crazy or something about wives going off the deep end (could the DH's be pushing them off...???...~:-}) ~anyhew ~ I gained about 30-40lbs the last year being on anti-depressents, Lexapro included ~ threw them out about 6 months ago and have yet to vanquish all of the weight gain ~ and have had 3 miscarriages to boot due to the darn meds ~ I cannot BELIEVE the docs push them so hard ~ you have to work through things on your own and if you're all medicated up you'll never get past what the problem is ~ just be gaining weight and numb the rest of your life ~ GREAT way to live ~ NOT ....so...I was reading on this Thyroid string and getting angry & laughing at the same time about the ludicrous complaining about their wives ~ maybe they should back off a little and let the little woman have a say here and there..??..~just a thought ~ have a wonderful night ladies~!!~:-}}

Thanks again for the enlightenment........

I wrote the book down.  I am going to the bookstore later today.  My doctor told me that the medication could not be something that is affecting my thyroid.  But, I have had high cholesterol my entire life.  Since I was 17, I have had my cholestrol checked at least once a year.  There have been times, every 3 months.  I have copies of all of my blood work and never, before have I had high thyroid levels.  It started right after I started taking Lexapro, and Spirnolactone.  I did look Lexapro up and it is a SSRI.  To me, that is evidence that one of these medications is changing my metabolic make up.  I am so glad to hear from someone else that believes this to be true.  I think Lexapro is a very dangerous drug.  The side effects are more than they have listed.  Thanks again!!

The book I mentioned is put out by Rodale Press.  It's the only place I ever found mention of antidepressents affecting the thyroid.  But I definitely believe it's true.  Even my Endo had never heard of that!  I'm thinkin' he needs to go back to school!

Thank you so much for your information!!  It is so great to hear from someone who has some first hand knowledge of this.  I have been researching the internet, because I have NEVER had trouble with my thyroid and noone in my family has a history of trouble.  I just keep coming back to the medications that my doctor had given me.  I do believe that Lexapro is an SSRI, like Prozac.  I will research that more.   PS.......You make PERFECT sense to me.........Thanks so much!!!

I remember reading in a book called "The Hormone Connection" that certain antidepressants, such as Prozac, can suppress thyroid function.  So it's possible that if Lexapro is also an SSRI like Prozac, it may indeed be messing with your thyroid function.  I was on Prozac for a few months following my divorce a few years ago, and like you I was always thin, but gained quite a bit of weight on the Prozac. A few years later, after reading that book (and being diagnosed HyperT) I realized that it was probably suppressing my thyroid, therefore giving me Hypo symptoms, because I believe I was Hyper prior to taking it as well.

Does that make sense, or am I just babbling at this point? All of these hormones are making me crazy!
