Thyroid and Breathing

So I finally got my first labs done after my I-131 treatment.  Of course they said it'd take 2 days for the results (sigh).  But right now, I'm trying to figure out if this new feeling is a part of the thyroid dying or if it is something completely unrelated.

First off, I've been a smoker on and off for 8 years.  Pack-a-day habit.  Last week I was coughing up quite a bit of gunk, so decided to go see my primary.  He whipped out his stethescope and took a listen.  He immediately says I have Bronchitis and prescribes me z-pack (5 day treatment).  During that time I decided to quit smoking, so it's been 7 days now since my last cigarette.  The coughing up of things has all but disappeared (still get clear phlegm, but I'm sure that's part of the quitting).  But now I have something new going on.  It almost feels like it hurts to take in a full breath.  But I realized that it only happens in two places.  When I breathe through my mouth, it hurts at the center of my chest, in between my collar bones.  And when I flex my neck muscles (like when you try to force a belch), it hurts right below my adams apple.  Now, when I breathe through my nose, I do not get this feeling.  I can still feel a little raspiness when I breathe in quickly through my mouth, but I have a feeling that is more towards the quitting of smoking than anything else.

The question is, has this feeling happened to anyone else?  I'm trying to rule out if it's thyroid related or not.

Sounds like hypo to me,
I gave up smoking 3 years ago but no symtoms from that...symptoms were from going HYPO after RAI.
A feeling like gasping for breath and not getting enough air?
Is that what you have?

Hi Yes this happens to me every single day and I quit smoking 21 years ago. I have bronchectasis yet lung specialist says that isnt causing my problem. So off I go to ENT and he says could be thyroid so now i have to get an ultrasound on that despite blood test showing adequate levels from thyroid medication. Just get sent from illar to post cos dont think anyone knows really. Also seeing a surgeon tomorrow to arrange a gastroscopy to see if the gullet is inflammed.
