Thyroid questions

I have been experiencing low body temperature for a few months now (consistently 95-96 deg when I first wake up) and have been having other problems like unintentional weight gain (despite smart/intense exercise and an EXTREMELY healthy diet that is at a caloric level that is just under maitenance level for my body). Not only that, I am always cold, I have noticed the texture of some of my hair changing..where it used to grow in straight, it is now growing in coarse and brittle. It seems like no doctor has taken any of these concerns seriously- even that I have been ammenorrheic for almost 2 yrs. At 21, these things should not be a concern... does anyone have any experiences they could share or advice about my situation? I don't know what I'm really asking for..other than reassurance that this could the problem I am having . (hypothyroidism). If there's a Dr in Kansas City that anyone can reccommend that'd be good too...
now if only I had health insurance..

HI!!Sounds like you need to have some bloodwork and be checked out by people who know about this stuff.  Call you local University Hospital and ask if they have a Head/Neck Clinic....if they do you could get checked out for free.  This would be the place that residents are learning about head /neck disorders under the watchful eye of their attending physician, and you will get the care you need(ie: bloodwork, physical, surgery, whatever) without insurance.  I'm a nurse in NJ and I've seen people without insurance use this as an option many times....hope it helps.  Good Luck...Jen

You'll need to have your levels checked again to determine if you have a thyroid disorder.  You have symptoms of hypothyroidism, but they could also be caused by something else. If your TSH is over 3.0, you should be given meds for that.
