What Symptoms do you expect when on too much NDT -> overmedicated?

Hello everyone,

i just wanted to ask you, what symptoms du you expect when on too much NDT... Erfa.. or Armour.. or WP etc...
Are the symptoms of overmedication the same as hyper-symptoms? (fast heart rate, insomnia, diarrhea, tremor, much appetite etc..)?

There are lots of conversion tables that incorrectly show that 60 mg of NDT is the equivalent of 100 mcg of a T4 med like Synthroid.  If you use the AACE/ATA recommended ratio for T4 to T3 (based on several scientific studies), 60 mg of NDT is equivalent to only 66 mcg of T4.

I want to kick myself. I don't have insurance or really any money, but it's so important to check labs constantly. I just found out that for 6 months I was over-medicated and in a state of overdosing. Being overmedicated destroyed my health and happiness. I have never felt so unhappy and sick in my life. I've been on Armour for years and then the past two years my body changed and I started to feel horrible. I gained weight and was struggling with energy. So In January my Doctor doubled my dose and that's when my life spiraled out of control. Not only did the energy levels get worse, but I fainted several times and almost passed out on three occasions. The toxic amount of medication caused me to be easily irritated whereas before I had more patience. I was so anxious and on edge and having severe anxiety/ panic attacks, overly emotional, aggressive, mood swings, easily startled. My gums were bleeding, I had chest pains, my hair falling out, dizzy spells and couldn't concentrate. My eyes got a 'bug-eyed" look and I couldn't remember things, felt disoriented, confused and just miserable.

By July, I was on my death bed and almost sent to the hospital. I was overmedicated for 6 months! It was impossible to function and I was on bed rest for a month. So in July I stopped taking the medication and my body is still recovering from that. But now my TSH is better than it was before. In July it almost died at .50 with double the meds. In February when it was 1.6 on the regular dose. Now it's 1.8 on nothing. Now I have a mass/lump on my neck and a high level of antibodies. I'm having an ultrasound this week and am hoping it's not cancer.

Just always be careful when taking meds. You can overdose slowly. I'm living proof. Still recovering. Taking it one day at a time

were you switched from synthroid to NDT?  one of the pharmacy books was printed wrong and you may have been given double what you should have because of the misprint

for me when they tried to switch me from compounded to NDT mfg pills, I felt a incredible boost of energy at first, my muscle aches vanished in days, then I started feeling too much energy, sweating easily, shaky a little or nervous, then I started having headaches, tension headaches in the back like a rubber band, ringing in the ears, eye dilated, couldn't sleep, but I didn't have diarrhea or weight loss...My dr insisted I was not hyper and made me stay on meds weeks longer bec blood test didn't show it, but next test showed what I was feeling...SUPER HYPER....and it took months to SLOWLY drop the dosage....and they switched me to synthroid just to be on the safe side. It took months for the symptoms to go away

Symptoms of over medication would be those of hyperthyroidism... such as sudden, unexplained weight loss, diarrhea, hand tremor, fatigue, mood swings, irritability, etc.

Please post your current thyroid hormone levels, along with reference ranges and symptoms; we might be able to help you.
