Epinephrine/lidocade a problem w/ thyroid disease?

I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:

"Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver."

What exactly is the problem here?

I have hypothyroidism and my dentist actually told me she has watch what she uses on me. Epinephrine can kill people with thyroid disease, at least that what my dentist told me.

Contraindications for the use of lidocaine include hypotension and bradycardia.  Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypotension; hypothyroidism can cause bradycardia.

Epinephrine is relatively contraindicated in hyperthyroidism as the vascular effects of epinephrine can worsen this condition.  A hyperthyroid patient may be more sensitive to the catecholamines and thyrotoxic or cardiotoxic symptoms can occur.  Epinephrine is also relatively contraindicated in hypertension due to the risk of worsening this condition.  Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause hypertension.

I found the same quote, but it doesn't say why.  That was the only thing I found, and since it's not specific, I'd not place a lot of significance on it -- wisegeek is not something I put a lot of faith in.

You should check with your doctor to be sure.
