someone please help!

I am 25, have all of the hypothyroid symptoms, have some type of lump or goiter or something in my throat.Ultrasounds show nothing in or on my throat, even though all 8 dr's I have been to have felt and seen(just by looking @ my neck)something around my thyroid.First dr said I had four to six small nodules.Went to a few more dr's for confirmation, and nothing was seen.Felt, but not seen.Six months later, I go back to my family dr, and she says it has gotten larger,to the size of a goiter.I go to an endo and she says I definatly have a goiter,so get some ultrasounds and x-rays done and more bloodwork.labs come back normal, and all pics of my thyroid and surrounding throat are normal as well. This lump or whatever in my throat just keeps getting bigger.over the past month it has gotten so that I feel my pills getting stuck in that area around my thyroid. If I lie on my back and turn my head either way, I have a difficult time breathing. I can feel and hear what feels like swallowing small marbles or gravel. This makes no sense to me, and my dr's are unwilling to do anything other than say it's not my thyroid.I don't know what to do!

Acid reflux and sleep apnea often go hand in hand with hypothyroidism.

Hashimoto's is when the body produces antibodies that attack the thyroid.  As the thyroid deteriorates, it produces less and less hormones, as this progresses, symptoms begin to show up, even though actual test results may still be in the "normal" range.  If you have Hashimoto's, the damage is BEING done continuously; we usually don't find out about it until it is very progressed because our doctors try to treat individual symptoms, such as acid reflux, with acid suppressants; or depression with antidepressants, muscle/joint pain with pain killers, etc, rather than look for the root cause

There is no way any of your doctors could say for sure that you don't have Hashimoto's, if they never tested your antibodies.  When you start getting brushed off by your doctor, it's time to take in research articles, etc in an effort to try to "train" them; OR, it's time to move on and find a different doctor.

Unfortunately, without your actual lab results and reference ranges, I can only comment "in general".  When you find your sample results (or get new ones) please post them, along with the reference ranges, so members can comment on you individual situation.

I don't remember my exact levels from my labs;they were in the acceptable normal range.I will look for them,I know there in my house somewhere!I have every symptom that has been listed for hypothyroidism. As far as I remember,I have had the TSH,T3 and T4 done.I don't think anybody's ever suggested antibody tests. Also, I thought that with Hashimoto's you didn't have the symptoms until later on, when the damage had already been done.I have mentioned the possibility of  Hashimoto's to all my dr's,but they all say a definite "no".They don't bother to check into it any more, just kinds brush me off.And I have my mom there for backup! My newest dr just thinks I have acid reflux and sleep apnea, lol.I did the sleep study and everything was normal.I did have acid reflux, though, and my Dexilant she prescribed has worked wonders for that little issue. What gets me is that this dr said that her sister had the same exact problems as me, and got put on a low dose of meds for hypothyroidism, and it took care of all her problems! She won't even try it on me,though! It's just crazy!!

Goiter is a term indicating a swollen or enlarged thyroid.

Have you had any thyroid tests done, other than the ultra sounds?  You would need, at the very minimum, TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.  You should also get antibody tests done to check for Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

If you have current thyroid lab results, please post them here, along with the reference ranges,  Reference ranges vary from lab to lab, so MUST come from your own report.

Knowing what your current levels are, will help members comment more fully on your specific situation.

What other symptoms of hypothyroidism do you have?

I am of course no Doctor but everything you are saying really sounds like thyroid issues to me. I had a goiter and mine also would cut off my airway when I would turn my head. Also, I have Hashimotos and my gland would swell up and go back down at times. Have you had the iodine uptake test done? I think I would continue to try and find a doctor that will listen to you. Best of luck. Im sure some others on here will also give more advice to you.
